projector retro (actual progress inside)

Post by swampthing »

so I am gathering parts to start playing with a dual projector setup. I made a deal for some busted headlights to hack up and play around with before messing with my lights

currently watching these http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... K:MEWAX:IT with the intent to low bid them when they end if I don't get these I have a few more ideas in the works and will update as I gather more parts

PS: Dan I found you! http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthr ... ght=acadia

I'll assume that you're planning on HID? I'm not sure if that auction is for two HID/two halogen projectors, or just four halogens.

I plan on a Morimoto Mini 4300K retrofit kit come springtime, it supposedly is the easier to do without hacking up or cutting. I want to do a full illustrated writeup to go with it too. Also debating a 3000K fog light retrofit since there are already OE projectors on the GXP.

They are halogen im pretty sure, I figure they are better then no projector at all. I have seen several hid retros in person done with halogens and they look great to me

Agreed, I've seen PeterG's G8 GT with and HID kit with the stock halogen projectors and I like the results. If you can get those Acadia projectors for super cheap I think it wouldn't be a bad deal.

Why such off-the-beaten-path projectors? Mini H1s are cheap, if you shop around, TL, FX, etc can be had cheaply. Id look more closely at what youre considering parts-wise..

Hmm, my take is that your biggest investment will be your own labor. Try not to cheap yourself out of great results. Mini H1s have a great rep going, they look like the up coming standard. GM projectors probably wont impress you.

Just trying to save you an extra step.

I love the quad projector look by the way. Post pics!!

no prob :beerchug: , like I said this will be fiddled with for a while and I have several different ideas to try out.

got excited this morning cause somebody bought my busted amp on ebay and I was like "perfect now I have a little extra to buy the projectors" then I look at his feedback, he used buy it now on another busted amp in january and never paid  needless to say I sent him an email saying if payment isn't received by 5:00pm today they are getting relisted. stupid people tick me off!

the acadia uses H11 lows and 9005 highs, I don't know what an H11 looks like I assume it's one of those weird ones that has a clip thing to hold it in

No, H11 is a standard twist bulb like a 9005.

Missed this topic...

Anyway, as long as you know not to expect HID projector results (which I think you do) then you should be fine with those especially at that price. Because they are projectors they will have a defined cutoff, although it will be fuzzy as they were originally designed for halogens.

Anyway, they'll be good for you to try out, though you may want to go to a real HID projector later for a better cutoff, better light distribution and a wider beam pattern.

For 10 dollars I would care less. Its not like his headlights are pointing at a barn/wall while he's driving.

made a little progress with researching fitment. the low beams have plenty of clearance in the back but the high's are another story. I don't think I will be using the acadia high beams. which brings me to Looong4, dude I need some pictures from the top showing me how much clearance you have behind the light.

P.S I'm going to send him a PM too just in case he doesn't see this post

Get HIR high beams. They make the already good high beams amazing with how much light they put forward. Seeing comfortably 20 seconds ahead of the car is typical in my experience so far with them. And they're essentially plug and play with your existing high beams.

That's my $0.02.

Gave that thought however that means hacking the reflector housing apart since the low and high are the same unit

Actually I could use some suggestions on shorter length projectors for my highs, if anybody knows of any. Halogen or hid doesn't matter to me

I am pretty sure you always planned on having halogen highs right?
Can you take a pic of the high beam projector?
