Post by merlinsmagikmaizey »

i have read that the same drive train was put into the caddy of this year with the same northstar and there was a recall on the tranny . gm said that the repair was something called a servo cover has anyone else with the northstar v8 in an 04 /05 bonnie had this problem and if so was the repair costly .
i love my bonnie but but im tired of checking her brain oil every week and winter is almost here .

First of all; welcome to the club. Second; I haven't heard of this issue but thats not to say that it isn't with other members. Hopefully, someone else will chime in here.

Cheers...

thanks for the reply your bonnie is a mirror image of mine .
im in canada though and i rarely see another like mine .
the gm dealership looked up the records of how many 04 gxp s were sold here and there were only 500 sold and the liquid silver is even more rare i havent seen another .
i was hoping to get an answer though im one of those girls that like to tell the shop what the problem is so i dont get ripped of when they say that its more than what it is because they think that a woman wont know the difference anyway , not true i mean i figured out that its problem is from a cold tranny and when warm no problems ,so i guess it could just be a seal or something but the leack is at the top end so not sure where this servo cover is supposed to go i juess ill google that too and see what comes up .
thanks

In order to help you, we need to know exactly WHERE on the transmission the leak is coming from. If you don't know, I'll steer you to the axle seals first while you look for it.

hi thanks for the reply.
the leak is up high on in between the left wheel bracket and the oil pan . yes the fluid leak is pinkthe leak is only a problem when i reverse from a cold tranny.
i found a recall on the gm canada website calling for a servo cover on the north star drive train caddy.
it was dated 2005 so there was a problem early on and the recall was issued .
im relly puzzled as to why the 1 st owner didnt have this fixed while she was still under warranty ...
im the second owner i couldnt afford her off the line new her price tage was $47900 canadian i could have bought a new grand prix for the price i paid for her used but the sound of that north star was just too much to be ignored and the style sporty with all the bells and whistles. im very sure she will be worth her original tage price again some day .
not sure why my profile says le member how do i change that ? and how do you add a photo.
thanks .

Is it a recall, or a TSB? Generally TSB's aren't addressed until it becomes a problem.

oh ! i thight i had entered the wrong model somewhere along the way . ooopps. thanks
anyway i did google the servo cover and it seems to be in the right spot for the leak there are several gaskets in there i think ill take her to a tranny shop for that repair though at least they let you see under the car and you can watch . the gm dealeship here in edmonton likes to take her away and not show you anything ,and when the guy that takes your keys seems a bit pissed off , you feel sick to your stomach and like a worrier who loves her v8 you wonder if maybe he's pissed that a woman has more horses than he does . so that s that but i do love my cars my first was a 74 dodge challenger she was 9 at the time and the only dodge i have ever owned just a 318 but fast none the less .
thanks again for all the replies .

hi, i am a fellow owner of an 05 gxp, recently purchased from a used car dealer in my area, i had this problem arise withing 3 weeks of the purchase, their pointed out the "problem" being an axle shaft seal, this was replaced in a fashion where i was sent the bill instead of the warranty company. NOW here's where my post gets bad, i took the car on a road trip to montreal. an 8 hour adventure across the map. this "axle shaft seal" was no way near the problem, luckily holding up untill i arrived back home it started to leak, both while engagin into drive, reverse. but not while parked and left in one spot...
in turn, i took the problem to MY OWN mechanic, and their arroused the thought that it's the internals of the transmission due to a post on site from General Motors.
these transmission in my mind have a problem with spitting fluid, i had it taken back to the dealer saying i wasn't gunna fork out the 4200 bucks it was gunna cost to get the tranny dropped and rebuilt. the lovely warranty company i've been dealing with agreed to the terms to take a portion of the rapair cost under their belts, aswell as the dealer and myself *note* bill being around $1000 per applicant, the transmission was sent out replace the 3rd clutch hub, and inner drive shaft and sent with the owner to drive back to their dealership. warranty then backs out of their calling and i'm foot with half the bill being way to much that i can afford at the moment..

p.s. sorry about the ranting. this problem still continues today, UCDA has been contacted and the warranty company was convinced on putting $500 down, but still no headway with the dealer, as he persist to screw me around saying that i still owe him more than what was origionally discussed.

i hope like hell you don't have this problem
- Josh

I noticed the other day that my tranny was shifting a little sloppy and when I checked the fluid level is was very low, however there are zero signs of a leak anywhere. Nothinig on the garage floor and nothing where I park at work...............so where did the fluid go?? Anyone have issues like this? I put this in this thread since its some kind of tranny issue.
