Where is the blower motor resistor located in a 96 Olds. Delta 88?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Blower motor resistor location Delta 88
I replaced the blower motor and the blower motor resister and the heat only works on one of the low settings. I wouldn't mind this if it worked on high. Went to the bone yard to see if perhaps I could find a switch to see that was possibly the problem, but there was no other Deltas there. Any ideas/suggestions.

are you saying you do not have blower operation in any speed selected. if so, you might be missing power to the switch. if you have not already done so, check fuse 50 (25 amp). if fuse is ok, you will have to check for 12V at switch. if you have 12V at switch and still no blower operation, you could try another switch from boneyard.
ignore hand written (red) scribbling. i converted ECC to manual on my 96.
edit: 96 bonneville switch assy appears to be same electrically as olds

Sorry I must have been editing my post before you replied.
Re: Blower motor resistor location Delta 88
have you tried jumping 12V directly to blower motor? this would clear up any doubt that your blower can respond to different voltages.
you didn't say which low speed position gives you some level of blower operation. as you can see from the diagram (for the oldsmobile only) there is a connection to the blower resistor that loops around the speed selection switch. so if your blower operation is only in the very lowest speed position, your speed selection switch selection switch could be faulty.
but the fact that you do have some blower operation in the lowest speed selection can mean that your blower resistor must be continuous as all resistor sections are in series. again that could mean that your speed selector switch is faulty although to my knowledge the switch is not a frequently reported failure item.
if you have experience tracing electrical faults, you could pull the blower relay and with speed selection switch in the very highest position, check for 12V at pin 86 of the relay socket. absence of 12V at that location could further indicate that the speed selection switch is faulty. if so (and excluding wiring problems) it would seem helpful if you can find a new control head at the JY. i think the 96 bonn control head would work. i am not sure about earlier or later control heads in buick, olds, or pont.

The power is not getting to the switch components. IF there is a separate connector to put power to the switch itself, there could be a problem in it. Or there could be a problem with the output wiring and a connector.
Note that there is a single wire that bypasses the switch operating parts. That wire takes current to the end of the resistor bundle and is shown as Oldsmobile only. The other models use a separate path in a different way.
Through the wire, with a defective switch or bad connector, current gives a LOW speed on blower. Notice that if the internal switch or the connector is not right, there will be NO power to the direct line to switch the relay to give full blower speed.
The poster has only one speed.
Troubleshooting the switch and connectors is what it will take.

Did you compare GM part numbers on the resistor packs and verify that the one you installed was even good? Where did you get your parts?

I have a 93 LeSabre that I have been parting to death. They were all the same part numbers and working.willwren wrote:Did you compare GM part numbers on the resistor packs and verify that the one you installed was even good? Where did you get your parts?
