Oil cooler lines
Noticed a couple of drops of oil in the driveway today so I pulled the car into the garage, crawled under and found some oil dripping from one of the oil cooler lines.
Tried a couple of parts stores around town and they all told me its a dealer only part. WTF? Can this be true for just a couple of cooler lines?
Rockauto has a listing but only for one and the car has two different length lines.
Is this a part I can by as an assembly or do I have to by seperate parts and fab/assemble them?
Thanks.
Edit: Just ordered the two hoses from GMPD for $65 total. For reference the part numbers are:
25731360
25731362

I'm gonna be Mr. Obvious, but you did try snugging up the fittings first, right?
Bye Bye:

Re: Oil cooler lines
Yes, Mr. Obvious! lol I tried that first.
Looks like its only one line and its leaking at the crimped connections. I figure I'll replace both to be safe.

Re: Oil cooler lines
This is obviously a known defect on these cars.
Why doesn't GM make the manufacturer of these hoses
pay for their replacement, or threaten to never buy
another part from them ever.
Just like the steering shafts.
I don't understand their relationship with their suppliers,
especially when it comes to defective parts.

Re: Oil cooler lines
What's funny is GM must have been using the same company to make them for years, or they are poorly designed... I owned a '88 Blazer '94 SSEi, '97 S10 and a '92 SSEi, and all had leaking oil cooler lines.

Re: Oil cooler lines
I agree. I was actually thinking about taking it to a local tractor repair place and and them custom fab me some new hoses but figured I'd go this route instead.

Re: Oil cooler lines
This is notorius GM issue. It's not a matter of "tightening he fittings some more". If they're torque'd to spec, there is NO more sealing effect to be had from tightening it anymore, other than perhaps damaging threads.
The simplest solution, mix up a batch of JB weld (or equivalent), and apply liberally at connections and around the fitting. Fixes the problem 110% of the time. I've done this on soooo many, I can't recount, including my GXP. Never saw drop afterwords.
The design in them is to allow some level of flexibility with a rigid line to the engine or transmission, as the engine/drivetrain "rock". It's not a matter of them being defective. Your other option is rubber hosing that you have to replace every few years, which few owners would do, leading to other failure, or completely rigid lines with no flexibility, and the minute you kick over the starter, the engine catches, it breaks the line. The downside to having some flexibility in the line, it drips a little.

Re: Oil cooler lines
I wonder if the constantly failing motor mounts are contributing to the cooler lines leaking.

Re: Oil cooler lines
That reminds me.....I think I might have a broken motor mount as well.
Does anyone have a pic of what it (a healthy one) looks like?
Scratch that! Saw a pic online and.......mine is broken. Here we go!

Re: Oil cooler lines
What? The cooler lines leak from the crimp fittings, not threaded bolts, nuts, gaskets or seals. JB weld? Seriously? That won't stop the leak. It may look like you stopped it, because you cleaned it all up (I hope) before smearing epoxy all over them, but epoxy won't fix this. The leak is so slow that you just havent checked back on one that you epoxied after enough miles. It's still leaking. It's usually more of a seep than a leak. But I guess beings nobody makes a high quality replacement part, epoxy is not a bad idea to try. I would make some custom lines myself, if it were my car.CMNTMXR57 wrote:This is notorius GM issue.
