Re: project: 2001 SSEi (silver)
Got a quote on the paint today. $200 to spray the rear, $250 to spray the front. I was hoping for a better deal on the front, but its still pretty good compared to anywhere else I would go.
I'm still not sure what I'm going to do, but the transmission is priority #1.

I can't wait to see you go all "Haro" on that interior. You are, without any doubt, the master of cleaning car interiors. You are the standard that others should aspire to when it comes to cleaning interiors. I try, I really do. I occasionally remove the seats to get the carpet steamer in there, but you remove the entire carpets and power wash them. Amazing.

Re: project: 2001 SSEi (silver)
Had some good news and some bad today. The good is, the tranny is in and works great (overdrive tested this time!)

Why the old trans was having problems.

New and old

and going back together.

...and the bad... Let's back up to yesterday, driving home after picking up the black 00 I just got. I stopped in Alexandria and decided to buy the mint condition silver rear bumper cover the salvage yard had for $300. Home is still 45 minutes away, so I manage to fit the bumper cover in the cab of my truck. When I get home, I take the whole setup the car wash to blast off all the road slush/grime. I wash the car, my truck and the new bumper cover. I put the bumper in the bed of my truck and drive the 3 blocks home, at no more than 15 mph. When I get home I unhook the trailer from the truck and park my truck in the driveway nose facing out, and then go to bed. This morning I take my truck down to the shop to start working on the silver one. Once I'm there, I'm thinking... hmm, I should bring that bumper cover in to thaw out. I go to my truck to get it, and its not there. I drive home to check where I put it... nowhere... I'm freaking out. I drive all over town looking for it, thinking it blew out when I was driving home last night, or blew out with the wind we got last night. I can't find it anywhere. I call the sheriff and report the bumper stolen/missing. Drove around town again, talked to the neighbors... nothing. I'm so depressed about losing $300, that I don't even have the energy to work on the car anymore. I go home and sit and think... where could it be?!?! Then my thoughts turned to, if I saw a bumper on the street, what would I do with it? Maybe somebody picked it up and threw it away thinking it was junk? I called the city dump and asked if anyone dropped off a bumper cover this morning. "Yup, sitting right here". I went down there right away thinking it would be junk. Turns out its not that bad, but definately not mint anymore. Has some scuffs, but most of it should buff out. I was just thankful to find out where it was. One of the city guys picked it up this morning, but I don't know where. SOOOOOOOO.... after I got the tranny in, I pulled the old bumper off.
Here the bumper is sticking out through the cover... I thought SE/SSEi used the same bumper brace?

Ohhhh!!! well theres your problem

Whole bumper is pushed a few inches to the right.

so I put a new one on

naked

new bumper installed

The worst one is above the left exhaust tip, up to the left. Black mark is where the paint is gone. The rest of them are pretty minor, and will buff out... don't show up in the pics.gonzo4191 wrote:where the scuffs?

Dumb question that I'm sure has been asked before: Who's shop are you using? Is it a local friend of yours? Very handy to have at your disposals for projects like this!

It's his landlord's auto-body shop, just a few blocks from his house.
Weird turn of events there Andrew, I'm glad to see that you got the bumper back in decent condition...

Re: project: 2001 SSEi (silver)
Well I have been working pretty hard on this one over the weekend. After being around the car this much, I have decided not to have the front bumper painted. The car has just too many minor bumps and bruises to make it worth it. If I paint the bumper, then the hood looks bad, if I do the hood, the fenders look bad... etc.
While its not going to be one of my most remarkable flips, it will be a great low-budget SSEi for someone.
Seats out

Fixing seat heaters

Pretty interesting find

Also replaced the fuel sensor as it was whacked

The car is basically done. I haven't done finished pics yet as I'm waiting for some touchup paint to dry, and then tomorrow I'll take it to the wash and get pics. Gonna ask $3500 obo

KBB values:
Excellent $4,640
Good $4,165
Fair $3,440
I think its between Good and Fair, so the $3500 asking price seems fair to me. Hoping for a quick sale.

Whoa, that interior was filthy. Again I compare it to the first page and amazed at the difference. Looks great, should be a great car for a lucky buyer. I wonder how long that young lady searched and searched for her lost drivers license?

Sold this car today to a younger kid that drove 4 hours one way to come see it. He took it for a long test drive, came back and offered $3k. I said meet me at $3250 and its yours. He drove it home.
Good to finally have one gone...about $1600 profit. Not the most profitable flip, but I'm just glad its gone... because honestly, I wasn't proud of it.

Re: project: 2001 SSEi (silver)
Well the kid that bought it called me today. He hasn't even had the car 2 months, and he just totalled it. He said he slid off the road and hit a telephone pole. Wanted to know if I want to buy it back.
I was kinda suspecting something like that would happen, based off the way he drove it on the test drive.
