Winter Rims

Post by THawes »

So the Maxima came with RS-A's on it, and after having them on the Bonneville when I first got it - I wasn't about to attempt another winter with those awful things. Picked up a cheap set of rims that came off of an '04 Maxima - they had a fair amount of road rash, so they got some paint to cover it up a bit. Mounted on them are Michelin X-Ice Xi2's.

Before (this just happens to be the best looking rim of the set):

Looks good. Why does the "before" wheel look like it's a much lighter shade than the rest?

Man do those look good! I REALLY like the color - VERY sharp. Just the right shade of gray - not too dark, not too light. Is it really a matte finish that it appears to be in the pics on the car? If so, I'm really liking that too. What kind of paint & paint color did you use? I assume you had to strip/prime/whatever before painting?

I'm guessing it's the Dupli-Color gray wheel paint w/ no clear coat. My drag wheels look very similar. Scuff, clean and spray.

Those look better than a lot of the OEM wheels on the newer ones...

Nice work.

Excellent tire too ;) Mine saved my ass a few times this weekend!

The "before" shot is before I painted the wheel in the graphite paint.

Thanks! I did spray on a couple coats of clear after and they stayed fairly non-glossy, which is what I was aiming for anyways so it worked out well. I used Dupli-Color paint, in Graphite and then the clear. Yeah, roughed up the existing finish on the wheels, cleaned them up good, and then sprayed them.

Good to hear! No real snow fall here yet so they're untested as of now (and I'm not exactly complaining, lol).
