Rear Window Defog Innoperative

Post by white06lacrossecxs »

The rear window defogger on my 01 Park Avenue has stopped working. When I push the button on the instrument panel the light comes on and wait about 5 minutes and nothing happens. I thought I don't think the grids are broken since this is happening to all of them. It just stopped working one day. Any idea where I should start?

My guess is that you popped the main feed to the defogger grid, neg or pos. They have historically been vulnerable. I am not sure about lately. You need to find the blown segment then repair it with a kit available at parts stores.

Burnt Bonny.

Note if you pull the injectors to obserbe fuel delivery...make sure you leave the plugs in and disconnect the ign. Believe me

Do what spoiledred94 said 1st. Then refer to the owners manual. It should tell you which fuse is for the rear window de-fogger. Check it and make sure it is good. If the fuse is ok, get a test lite and get in the rear seat. after starting the car and turning on the rear window heater. With one lead of the test lite grounded, use the other lead and carefully touch the grid line in the lower driver side. Be careful not to damage the grid. The test lite should lite up to full brightness. If it is bright, work your way back toward the passenger side on the vertical grid lines. Make sure and be careful not to damage the grid. The test lite should get dimmer as you go across from driver side to passenger side. If the test lite is bright all across the grid, check for a loose ground. Good luck! - BC
