compression question

on my 02 gmc 6.0L i did a compression check
and #6 cyl was at 145 and the rest were between 170 to 180
should i just put new rings in all 8 or should it be ok already have heads off to fix
broken exhaust manifold bolt
engine has 141,000 on it and looks new inside
any info would help thanks

I would consult a service manual. 145 PSI sounds pretty decent, enough to keep using at least, but a manual will tell you if that's high enough to be safe. If you do rings, you will have to have the block deglazed at the minimum, to create a new surface for the new rings, and you are correct in that all 8 will need rings. You will have to measure the cylinders, and again consult a manual to see if that's enough wiggle room to safely put in new rings w/o overboring and going to a larger piston and rings.

thanks i went to the dealer and talked to the head guy of service at Bill Jacobs of Joliet ,il
what a nice guy told me to about the 10% of the comperssion differance of each one so #6 is to low could be why it pushes oil every 3000 miles
so looks like the engine comes out for rings and bearings
