Battery light comes on and stays on.

I have 2000 ssei, my issue is that my battery light comes on and stays on. The charging display seems to be stuck at 12.4 volts when car is off and when car is started and running it doesnt seem to read that it is charging it stays at 12.4 volts so the battery light comes on and check charging system displays.I have checked volts at battery when running it is about 14.6 volts. There is no driveability issue but if the alternator or battery actually has a problem i will not know before its too late,so i want to fix it now.
If the pcu is at fault i have another one but when i replace it the car doesnt start.
The problem started after the positive cable that runs to the dist block was taken off and it came in contact with some metal and arked.

Check to see if you have any voltage still going to the under-hood fuse block. I'd think that somewhere along that line, it would be fused.

Thanks for the info. I rechecked all the fuses and low and behold i missed one that was bad in the dist block under rear seat and wallah no more prob.
