series I engine leaks & repairs (bypass hose & fitting)

Post by aukc »

so I take my car into the GM dealer for it's annual service & inspection, tech finds a bunch of things to fix, I'll cover them one at a time, first was the coolant mainfold to intake manifold - http://www.pontiacbonnevilleclub.com/fo ... 19&t=20907

second is the bypass hose, which goes from the front of the intake manifold to the coolant pump housing, the "shelf" at the front of the intake manifold was damp with coolant, tech recommended replacing hose & fitting.

drain some coolant - Image

remove hose and fitting, I found the easist way to do this was to move the tensioner out of the way, used a socket and breaker bar braced with a 4x4 block of wood against the strut tower bar, then used a 1 1/8 deep socket on the fitting since a regular socket didn't clear the nipple on the fitting, hose was date stamped 1994 -

new fitting installed, fitting is sealed to intake manifold by rubber O-ring which comes with new fitting, new fitting is metal, tech thought the old fitting might be plastic but old fitting was metal so will save as spare if I can get a replacement O-ring for it -

The replacments are metal now. That is correct. No need to save the plastic one.

What is that s/c pulley setup you have going?
