Which ones are you referring to. There are 3 for the transmission and one for the engine. They are all available from rockauto.com.

There are 2 mounts.... You have the mount for the F17( 2.84 ), F79( 2.97 ) and then a mount for the GX3( 3.33 )... Will depend on which one you have..

I changed the one that is at the front right of the engine compartment...would be the right side of the engine if looking from front of the engine....mechanic told me there were 3 for motor.. the one I changed... main one at the back..which was alright and then the other one which they say the dealer wants like $300 bucks for...I should phone them back and ask for the part number of that expensive one...what are these numbers refering to??"F17( 2.84 ), F79( 2.97 ) and GX3( 3.33 )...

There are 3 transmission mounts and 1 engine mount. Part numbers listed for Anchor brand from rockauto.com.

Engine mount, located behind AC compressor, right below the ignition coils) Anchor P/N 2551

Image

Right transmission mount, located on tailshaft of transmission below power steering pump close to where the right axle comes out of transmission. Anchor P/N 2556

Image

Left front transmission mount, located below the transmission modulator. Anchor P/N 2537

Image

Image

Left rear transmission mount, located close to where the left axle comes out of the transmission. This one is very difficult to get out without removing the engine or the power steering rack. Located on sub-frame where these 3 bolts are. Anchor P/N 2568

Don, they list an option with the AC Delco mount for MOUNT,TRANS FRT LEFT HAND; 2.84, 2.97R, but not with the anchor parts. This is also the only AC Delco they offer. Do you think there is really much of a difference?

I don't truly think there is... The GX3 mount may have been a bit stiffer not 100% certain on that tho...

Don, big diff on the special mount for the GX3... my shop tried using a regular one for $75, and my trans tore it up in less than 5k miles. replaced it with the special mount, and was good for the next 20k i had the car. (im sure its still going)

If it's the left front in question, it's a no-brainer. Do what I did with a long bolt, a nut, and an endlink bushing or two on the anchor 2.84 part.

k...well after alot of surfing the net and calling people I found what I need...the part number from GM is 22188804...which is the right front or passenger front motor mount...the mechanic at the place where I had the other 1 changed can only find 1 and they want $412.75, thats GM replacement and thats just for the part..no install!!!!freakin crazy...now I have found from rockauto..that the replacement for that part is Anchor P/N 2552, I talked to a sales person on the phone directly, and from them it sells for $23.79...thats a far cry from $412.75...I can't figue out what the difference is?...I mean there must be some difference in the parts...Anyway I found a Genuine GM part 22188804 from gmpartsgiant.com for $152.67 and thats the one I think I am going to go with...Here is a link to gmpartsgiant.com with a diagram of the parts I need...I have already changed the transmission mount, labeled number 9, in the diagram. I need to change motor mount labeled number 13 in the diagram...this is part number 22188804...

There is nothing wrong with the Anchor part. I replaced all of mine with them and they are just as good. It was a year ago and no problems at all.

The only difference in the whole drivetrain between either model is the gear ratio in the transmission. The suspension is different, but I have also upgraded my sway bars and have been running the Anchor parts for over a year with no issues. There are a lot of people that are running Anchor parts with no issues. I can just about guaruntee you that the GM part you get will most likely be made by someone else and rebranded anyways. They have sold of the parts supply for these vehicles sometima ago, remember we are talking about parts for a 20 year old.

And those pictures I posted above, those are my year old mounts, I took those pictures that night, not when I installed them.

The GM part number is 22188804 and is special order from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ for $125

Anchor's websitehttp://www.showmetheparts.com/anchor/# shows the 2552 for
Buyers Guide: BUICK-ELECTRA, LESABRE (91-85); OLDSMOBILE-98, DELTA 88 (86-85)
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/raframecatalog.php shows the 2551 for the 89 Bonneville SSE, SE and LE for $20

If you want to pay the money that your mechanic is saying, then go ahead. I just looked back at my order with Rock Auto and I have the 2551 running in mine and has been there for over a year. I paid around $25 for mine.

I would not be surprised if the one your mechanic and http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/ have are made by Anchor also.

So, it is your choice to go with your mechanic, GM partsdirect, or any other. Oreily's auto parts even has the Anchor 2551 available in store for $29.

i understand what you are saying...but the gm replacement P/N for my front passenger side motor mount is 22188804 ..and after talking to Rock auto on the phone.. they cross referenced that GM P/N and come up with anchor P/N 2552 not 2551...thats why I was questioning...I may go with that one...I have also heard of people buying cheaper mounts and end up replaceing them more then once...I will probably just go with the cheaper one given the age and the price I paid for the vehicle...but it does go against my principle..and I still feel abit wrong buying the cheaper part...lol

the only reason you should have to go with the more expensive one is if you have the RPO code on your spare tire cover that says GX3. which I'm going to say you don't, because I'm 99% sure it wasn't available in 89. only 90/91

boil, don't be a fool with your wallet. Buy the part suggested above and working fine in an 89. Matt is a very respected Gearhead here, and knows what he's talking about.

I spoke with him yesterday in person, and he's actually a little frustrated that you won't listen to his advice when he's actually RUNNING that part in his 89 just fine. We're here to HELP you, not steer you wrong, and frankly, many of us here know these cars far better than your mechanic.

If you see the purple stars and the rank of Gearhead, it's as good as gold. Those members are selected for that outstanding rank one by one.
