One of 'em. He has 2 Bonnevilles and a Suburban here, but the other dark 2k SSEi you see is our bracket winner, Keven (BoiseGTP). He has a GTP, Regal GS, and a 2k SSEi.1fatcat wrote:I thought you popped your engine?

They're custom setups. No problem though, I went to work and cut 4 new gaskets with a laser.1fatcat wrote:Oh, I didn't realize he brought extras, thats good. If you guys have any questions on the seal replacement, let me know.

John and Matt headed back to WA, Keven, Ray, and Anjelica headed out to ID.
The crowd is shrinking. Haven't seen Jordan yet today, but Paul and Laura are still here, as well as Matt, Wendy, and the girls, plus the 5 of us.
Firebird back together, we may tinker at disconnecting the smoked 2k when the shade hits the driveway later. Supposed to be close to 100° later today.

Re: WCBF10 Sat July 24
LOL that is so funny Tracy.
The track day was awesome. We gathered and left on time at about 6:30am.
The surprise when we got to the track was Jarod showing up.
My first time trial was against Zilla. The leaky rear diff seal had totally soaked my left rear brake shoes which made it impossible for me to brake torque higher than 1200 rpm. I rolled into a red light right off the bat.
All my runs were disappointing due to a limiting problem when I was in 3 rd gear at 90 mph. It was like a rev limiter was coming on and the power would drop and hold me at no more than 95 mph stuttering the last 330 ft.
My reaction times rocked though. All below .050 with two at .001 and .004 and my final in elimination agaist Keven was a red light at -.001
I tried for the perfect light and I wasn't going to roll over just to let a Bonneville win. He won it fair and square.
More on the resolution to my problems in a minute.
My best run was 13.98 at 93 mph..............stuttering for the last couple of seconds at 93 mph thru the trap.
If I let up on the throttle, it would keep accelerating slowly and one run I trapped at 96 mph.
Something was definitely awry.
MattVag discovered it while we were waiting for Bill to arrive with the laser cut axle bearing gaskets.
Years ago I converted the rear axle with a C-Clip eliminator kit c/w Strange HD axles. The huge roller bearing sit outside the axle against the brake plate, so if an axle breaks the wheel/axle don't come off.
I was only running on the two little primary barrels of the Quadrajet carb. The choke tab was locking out the huge secondary throttle plates from ever opening.
I'm confident now that this is a low 13 sec at well over 100 mph Bird.
We pulled the axle assembly, cleaned up the oil and sealed it up good. I'm ready to rock and roll now!!!!!!
The award ceremony Saturday night was awesome and capped with a little presentation of my own.
Ya should have been here Tracy.
I asked Bill to burn the vid but he says he's gonna use it as blackmail.
I blame it on the Napa wine and Rogue ale mix.
We are busy downloading pics and vids. More to come later.
It's almost 100F now so we are trying to chill with more beer and copious amounts of water.
Bill and Tyler and Jordan are having an elastic band war.
I am completely unarmed and bare chested........already took two nipple hits.

You know that 4 barrel lock-out activates when the engine is cold. I'm not saying they were or were not working durring the runs, but a 13 second car on two primary barrels...WOW!

Re: WCBF10 Sat July 24
I can vouch for them not working. I was beside him when it started bucking, stuttering, and popping. I was coming down the return road on my second pass when he went by doing it again.
After inspecting the carb, it quickly became obvious what the cause was, and confirmed that was the problem. It was impossible for the secondaries to open at all. Oddly enough, the electric choke works fine. The problem was the lockout tab, and has a temporary fix in place.
It's safe to say the 'bird would have nailed a low 13 at the least, possibly even a high 12 had the secondaries opened when they should. There's a significant size difference between the primaries and secondaries on the QJ.
