what the duck?

Post by SLEking »

i dont know what this cars doing now. heres the story: yesterday (friday), i went to auto zone, i got the car scanned. the lady said it pulled 2 codes, both MAF related... I finally went to the junk yard, got an MAF to stick on to see if it was the problem. The check engine light did not shut off and again the car sputtered on idle and oil psi is all over as i was driving home on the highway doing 75 mph with the MAF plugged in after pulling it putting another one in, pulling that one, and putting the original back in, the RPM's began to drop to 0, oil psi went to 0, and even if i gave the car gas, nothing happened. then it finally jumped back together. It happened again so i pulled over pulled the plug on the MAF and it didnt do it. I plugged the MAF back in a while later, and the car did the same thing. I'm stumped ... I noticed, the only time the car rides alright is when i pull the sensor on the air intake itself. If i pull that sensor, the car will start up on the first try, it wont bog, and oil psi isn't as drastic moving.. Right now i'm driving around with the MAF and the air intake sensor both unplugged. My "ses" is still showing, but the car is running at least normal
thanks a lot for reading. i would really appreciate any answer you can think of. I have yet to learn about these 3800's and only know about GM fuel injected/carbed small blocks.

So wait. If you unplug the Intake Air Temp sensor (in the bellows between the Airbox and Throttle Body), everything is normal, but if it's plugged in, it runs like crap?

Get a new IAT sensor, and see where that takes you.

Is there a vacuum line unplugged or cracked somewhere that could be indirectly causing your codes?

i dont believe so. i just know that the car has been surging, bogging, and oil pressure dropping and jumping for about a year and a half. i pulled my IAT before anything, and that mainly took care of the surging and bogging. it used to do it at every stop light/sign now if i have the iat unplugged it only does it every so often. i just dont get it lol

There was a vacuum line rubber cap that came off of mine one time, in behind the Intake Manifold. It was on a 'T' that goes to the brake booster. The cap was totally missing. Something to check.
