Where is the blower control module on 2001 Park Avenue?

Talk about the other 3800 powered GM cars, particularly for items not covered in other sections that may be unique to your year/model, and differ from a Bonneville.

Where is the blower control module on 2001 Park Avenue?

Post by michaelbsc »

OK, I admit I'm not all that observant about cars, so my failure to notice this at first may seem stupid.

My wife's 2001 Park Avenue with split Driver/passenger ECC started failing intermittently to turn on the blower recently. And now it's more off than on, so the AC isn't working.

On both my '94 Sedan DeVille and my '95 SSE this was the blower control module, and it's under the hood down behind the MaxiPanel on the firewall.

I thought I'd have an easy time on the Park Avenue, expecting it to be in the same place. But it's clearly *NOT* the same.

First, on this model am I correct that it's probably the blower control module?

And second, looking under that dash it seems like there's a whole lot to pull out to get to the HVAC. What am I missing here? Is there some panel under the hood that I failed to see, and this is really similar to the mid '90s vehicles? Or do I have to tear out all that stuff under the dash to get to it?

Thanks,
Michael

If the system is similar to the Bonnevilles, and it appears that it is, the blower motor itself is the more likely cause. Both the blower motor and the blower motor control module is behind the right side of the dash. If you pull off the lower panel, and look up, you should be able to see it. When it won't start, try tapping on the motor and see if it starts up.

OK, this got me in the ball park, and you are right. The module is fine. The real problem wasn't the motor proper, but rather the cheesy electrical connector on the motor.

I'll post some pics of how I fixed it as soon as I can get to it. Hopefully I can help save someone $500. My total costs for the repair was time and some complaints from my wife about the heat.

On my dads 01 Park Ave the connector melted inside and we replaced it.
