Another idiot on the road

Post by myfirstbonnie »

I took the wife to work tonight and ran into an idiot. Not literally, but almost.

Going down I-84 west towards Portland and I need to get in the far left lane where the split for I-5 goes north and south. I-84 ends where it meets with I-5.

I am in the suburban now and as I go to merge over I just happen to see a reflection off a car with no lights on. I swerve back over and get in behind him. I flashed my low beams off and back on 2 times and this guy starts flipping me off.

As we get ready to get on the split, he gets one lane over and flips me off again so I yelled out my window for him to turn his lights on.

He turned them on and then got behind me and turned his high beams on and followed me for the next 10 miles that way until he took an exit. The high beams did not bother me much because he was in a malibu and I was in the burb, but I have gotten good at tilting the big mirrors in the right direction back at him.

I had no problem with him flipping me the bird, but the idiot did not need to follow me with his brights on. I could have put him into the concrete median if I had not seen him when I did.

I think it's a symptom of frustration with the world in general. I have had many instances of people doing what seems like idiotic things like that for no apparant reason. I try to keep my cool and sometimes feel like pit manouveuring them off the road but sanity and maturity gets the better of me.

When I was younger and more invulverable I would get in front of them and ram my brakes on to make them slam theirs on but now with anti lock brakes that doesn't work too well.

Yea, not really a good idea. Another guy I know did that and caused a 4 car pileup when the guy he did it to panicked and locked the breaks... he was charged with reckless driving and a bunch of other stuff.

When I was visiting my brother last week, he's a Police officer, he told me about an incident his partner had when driving his private vehicle after work.

A driver in front of him was driving too slow and the off duty policeman had his daughter in the car who was late for a practice, so he was following a bit too close and honked his horn. The slow driver went around the block and came up behind him, turned his truck around and then rammed his back bumper into the off duty policemans back bumper, then proceeded to speed away. The officer jumped out and was able to get his plate number. $3,000 damage to the back of the officers truck. Needless to say he was arrested. He was driving his grandmothers truck and was a 24 year old new driver. I can imagine his surprise when he found out who he rammed. LOL
Now that's an idiot!

People need to chill (the f***) out these days. The car isn't a moving invincibility bubble. Be nice and folks will be nice in return.

I've been the recipient of some random acts of kindness the past few days. I'm doing what I can to pass those along.

Learn from the mistakes of others, that way when you mess up you can do so in new and interesting ways.

I have one of these stories.

Last week I was driving home and the last interesction before my house people always run the right turn lane and cut off traffic because its the last stop before heading to the freeway ramp.

so I am approaching the intersection and of the three lanes that go forward thru the intersection I'm in the right lane because I take the first street to the right after the intersection..
Any, I'm going about 35mph, speed limit 45.. anyway.. about half way thru the intersection this dufus in a brand new Camaro rolls right thru his red light and turns into my lane.. I'm on the brakes like a M..F... and my ABS even kicked in because I could hear the dumper valve cycling..
so not only did he pull out in front of me but he can't find his gas pedal.. I skidded right up behind him and of course shocked and ticked off i lay uinto my horn.. the guy rolls about 15' then stops right int he middle of the road.
I was the first of a line of cars going thru the intersection so there's a ton of cars piling up behind me and some of them were on the horn too.
finally this guys gets going and about 100' later he comes to a stop again, I figured he was pulling intothe church parking lot so I wait and he creeps past the driveway of the church.. ok, he's not going to the church.. and the other cars are flying past me int he left lanes and I can't pull around. so I get ont he horn again, I'm driving the Vette BTW and its amazing how many people will dissrespect you when you drive a Vette, It's called Vette envy I guess.. anyway finally the laft lane clears out and I drive around him because he's not moving more than 2 mph and as soon as I drive around him I get back into the right lane because I have to make my right turn in 200' and go figure, the second I turn into the right lane the guys jumps into the left lane and hauls A$$..
So I don't know if he got ticked at me for getting on the horn when he ran a red light in front of me, because you know, he's driving a shinny new Camaro.
Or...
Because I drive a 2000 Vette, his car is so much newer and special, I should yield to him..??..??
OR.. when he cut me off he heard my horn and stepped on the brakes to be a jerk and his wife (yes - in the passenger seat) started yelling at him and he still acted like an immature jerk and once I drove around himm the wife told him to get the hell out of there because they prob.. expected me to slam my brakes .. which I don't do, I don't want to get rear ended and that's why I got ticked in the first place, I just wanted to get out of te position of being the Vette sandwich.

FWIW, those Camaro's are nice but I roasted a beautiful black SS the last time I went to the track, I ran a 12.2and he ran a 13.9 it was awesome.
