Be VERY careful with this. I know he seems cool, and he probably will replace the parts with used original equipment, but there are generic aftermarket parts available for the Town Car, and some of them are horrifically bad, by which I mean, possibly made of styrene...make sure to check your parts closely when you get the car back. Oh, and don't leave ANYTHING in the car when you take it to him.

Very good advice...girl I used to know had her Malibu "fixed" and the taillight was of horribly worse quality and took water on first day of her having it back while it rained out. There were noticeable color differences between the fixed and original one, as well.

It might be a good idea to actually request he use either new OEM or good condition OEM parts for any body panels, but try to inspect parts before installation if possible. In general, I prefer dealership paint shops over private paint shops. I've seen so much peeling clear coat from repainted areas, and the cheap looking peel'n stick pinstriping from private shops, it makes me sick.

Well, from the way he is talking he is only actually replacing the turn signal lense, but I'll keep an eye out for it leaking water. He said he had a hard time finding one around here and had to order one online. He says he is gonna try and fix the bottom splash shield (originally thought this was an inner fender, he actually tore out one inner fender and the splash shield). And he is gonna try and find new clips to fasten the valence back on as it is not actually damaged. But it will be closely inspected, I just wish I could look at it at their shop on the lift, but oh well lol.

The problem I had with a non-oem lense (signal/cornerlamp lense) was that it yellowed within a year. It looked awful!

Huh? Unless the car's been trashed, they're very solidly built. I've been driving a '92 Grand Marquis for 13 years now and have 350000km on it. The interior fit and finish is better than my wife's 97 Lesabre.

The Lesabre is a good car also, but the Grand Marquis/Crown Vic/Town Car are also very good cars.

No No, that is the emoticon that states "I'm with stupid" meaning I'm with you. If he doesn't want the Town Car, I'd take it. Awesome car.

Ball joints and tie rods. These are almost a yearly occurrence on those cars after 10 years. I've owned an 89 G Marquis and known many people with Vics and they all did that.

I think that would be a fairly objective statement, as his Bonne was totalled quite a while back.

You must have had bad luck. I've had my 92 Grand Marquis since it was 5 years old and I haven't had any ball joints go on me yet. I've got 350000km on it. Now, I've lubed all the ball joints myself every oil change, and I'm sure that goes a long way. Also, it has never seen any taxi or police use.

Nice looking town car! Old post I know but you should check out Crownvic.net if you aren't already on it. It has been opened up to all panther cars many many years ago. Great community and a huge wealth of information.
