Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

There is also another option. I've successfully tested a '97 PCM in a '96, and worked flawlessly once the VATS was disabled. For an L67, the trans tables and DTCs need to be changed to allow it to shift a 4T60 instead of the 4T65 it wants to see. But that's another option open to you.

It wasn't expensive for me because I already had the PCM as well as the tuner (HP Tuners). I can't remember the exact DTCs and trans tables to zero out, but I do remember some of the tables being the shift pressure vs. whatever condition (TPS, speed, etc.). Since the 4T60 doesn't use a pressure control solenoid, those tables need to be zeroed out, and whatever DTCs associated with the pressure control circuits need to be set to "no reporting".

My '96 testbed was owned by lunchboxx, and is now owned by marik. It was only in the car about an hour or so, but it worked just fine. The big difference though is that particular '96 had the L36 and 4T60....'97s with the L36 ALSO had that setup, so there were no code deletions or table mods to do.

All you need to do is hook the tuner up download the file make changes as you would to any other year. You just won't have many tables to adjust because its only 256k flash.

It isn't quite that simple. The '96s run the 4T60, not the 4T65 that the '97 L67s do. When I did my '93s OBD2 conversion, I was able to get the '97 L67 bin file to shift the 4T60, with some table modifications. Had lockup and everything, but wasn't able to tune further because the engine was letting go.

This is why the '96s aren't supported in the tuning world too much. It was the ONLY year the S2 L67 was mated to the 4T60.

Actually it is. Just buy a cheaper programmer that has the 4t60 mapped in the file.

Worked just fine on my '96. 20* on 3.5" pulley no kr.

Heck, mine's had less issues tuning wise than Larz01's GTP until he converted.

Have you 96 guys ever seen a field for Security on the 96 PCM's? Or have you even been able to turn off security?

I can turn off security on any 97+ but not the 96..
