The Only Things I Couldn't Find

Post by kmalinich »

So ... just to start off... great forum.. great people... with just searching all my questions have been answered so far..

Except for a few. A little help?

1) Assuming I had them and they were painted correctly... How difficult is it to swap an SSE\i front and rear bumper onto an SE?

2) How much modification should is required to put a grill from a 95 SE on my 97 SE? I like the look much better. I know the hinge design is different, IIRC... I've heard this might require a whole hood swap.

3) Do the 92-95 tails directly my SE? I only want them because I want to clear them. From what I've seen there isn't any way to clear the 96-99 tails.

Thanks! All of you are the best!

1. I don't see how this would be any problem at all. But I would check with others. I think you would also want the SSE door trim so it all fit nicely together. As well as the trim between the door and the wheel.

2. I'm pretty sure there is someone with a black 96-99 with a 92-95 grill on it.

3. I have never seen this done.

Hmm. Maybe I can live without the bumper mod.

I really like the grill design on the 92-95.. more research I suppose.

The tails are all interchangeable between 92-99.

For the bumpers to blend correctly, you'll need the door panels and rocker panels as well.

For the grille swap, you'll need to change your hood latch, but there might need to be other hardware changes. The hoods are the same, the fenders are not (different shape to the corner light cutouts, 96 and newer were steel, 92-95 were high-impact plastic).

The tails will swap, but only with a trunk lid swap. The shape of the cutouts for the center pieces mounted in the trunk lid are different.

1) Assuming I had them and they were painted correctly... How difficult is it to swap an SSE\i front and rear bumper onto an SE?

You will need the actual front bumper under the bumper cover. There are cutouts for the foglights. I've seen mix/match SSEi bumpers with SE door trim. It's not all that bad.

2) How much modification should is required to put a grill from a 95 SE on my 97 SE? I like the look much better. I know the hinge design is different, IIRC... I've heard this might require a whole hood swap.

The headlights are shaped a little differently. It may look a little funny/require cutting the grill. But otherwise, I believe the grill should mount to the hood fine.

3) Do the 92-95 tails directly my SE? I only want them because I want to clear them. From what I've seen there isn't any way to clear the 96-99 tails.

Like mentioned above, you'll need a trunk lid and spoiler (if you want a spoiler) from a 92-95.

Thanks! All of you are the best!

THANKS!!

IIRC the grill design may look awkward with your headlights, the early gen wasn't nearly as sloped up front, and the headlights may be further forward.

So basically, I should just buy a 95 SSEi. That's gonna require quite a hunt
