Fog Light Bulbs

Post by Silver03Se »

I was in NAPA and did some cross referencing on the 880 lamps. Picked up a pair of 889 lamps, they're 35 watt, instead of the normal 27 watt. Nice and Bright after 2 months. They were cheap and seem to be holding up just fine. No funky colors or attention grabbers for those of you where the law is stiff.

Hate to revive a 3 week old post, but are you sure you mean 889? The 889's I just found not only were supposed to be 27w, but also had a 90* connector instead of the straight one. I found a 899 that looks like the right connector and is 35w. I'll be posting when I check them out...

If you can find them 886 lamps have the 90 degree connector and have a 50w rating. I have used them in the past with no adverse effects on the stock wiring.

I'm going to look for some 886's but I don't know if the 90* connector will work.

As for the 899's- Despite the 8 watt (29.6%) difference from 27-35, I can't really see much difference.

In all pics, the 899 is on the right.

I thought about grabbing a pair of 886's yesterday when I noticed them and thought about this topic. But would you say they are worth replacing the 880's?

Again if you can find them, 885's are 50 watt with a straight connector. My mercury used the 899's and by upgrading to the 885's i was able to see a significant difference. I've run the 885's in the bonneville and had no problem with the wiring but they did discolor the inside of the lense in the center (at least that's what I'm contributing it too) so I backed back down to the 899's.

Stock lenses are plastic. Upgrade the lights for less than 50 bucks to a better reflector design with glass lenses, and run 100W H3's. I'm running that way, and because of the improved reflector design, people don't flash their brights at me. It projects a strip across the front because the upper and lower part of the reflector directs the light back to the center.
