Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

Idea I am kickin around in my head

Post by Dirty Rockstar »

Hey gang. Long time lurker, minimal poster.

Anywho, my next ride is going to be a Bonneville. I would LOVE a GXP, but I'll take an SSEi too. So my thinking is, I would love to drop in a Cadillac LC3. I guess what I am wondering is if it would be better to convert it to RWD via hanging the body on a RWD frame or switch up the engine and make it FWD in the Bonneville's engine bay. 469 hp in a Bonneville would be totally sweet, and I really have a thing for the Northstar engines. I even have an LX5 ShortStar in my Intrigue!

I am thinking that for ease of fabrication, FWD is the way to go, but then I have other issues, like what transmission can handle all that raw, unadulterated power? What will my torque steer be like? Will I wind up driving into a guard rail when I gun it leaving an intersection?

I really like the LC3, and I love the Cadillac STSV it belongs to, but I love Bonnevilles more :)

I think the 4T80E could handle that power. Wouldn't it be cooler to turbo a GXP? Do a tailpipe turbo, and it would work great. Would need to run a BigStuff3 controller, but wouldn't that still be less expensive than the LC3 anyways? Just throwing this out there.

The swap can be done, but it depends on how much money you have to wrap up into it, or how good your fabrication skills are.

I honestly say that if you want that engine, stick with the STS V. Better car all around I think, especially for all that power.

Converting to RWD? Not a good idea... You'll be left with a frankencar that'll be way too heavy, and AT BEST full of compromises.

LC3 FWD? Not worth it, you'll need the 4t80 at a minimum to handle the output, and the engine height is probably going to be an issue as well. If you want that kinda power, you need a proper chassis, like the CTS/STS. It'd be neat in an F Body, but you're in boosted LSx territory then as well....

With either of them you still have H body brakes, suspension, etc to go with the $15k+ engine.

Intense gave up on their bonneville because they couldn't keep it together with all the blower running through it, GP's seem to handle ultimate power better.
