Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
I got a junk yard trany, the guy at the junk said the car sat for a long time the engine blew but the tranny was good,
I put it in.. and it slips in all gears the car will move but slips the whole time.
I was told it may be that the trany filter may be clogged from seting so long.
Is there any thing that will cause this other then a bad tran?
I called the guy back up and told him it was sliping bad all the time in all gears,
he said he know who was the old owner and that the trany worked b4 the engine blew, He said i need to drive it around more to get it working again..<----That sound right??

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
Thats the Problem... The 1995 Trans is wired differently.... Chances are that you will have to yank the side pan off the 95 Trans and the 93 Trans and swap out the internal wiring harness... You need the 93's internal harness on the new trans... When I did my Trans swap on the van I had to swap the 93 Harness that was in the trans to the 95 Harness so that the trans would function..
I do wish you would have asked us a few more questions before your swap so we could have guided you...
You are in for more fun my friend... Let us know if there is anything else we can answer
And again, Just to make sure you know...
You have to install the 93's wiring harness into the 95 Trans

I hope thats it TY for the help
Can i re wire it from the plug side? there is planty of wire, does anyone know what wires would have to be spiced and switched?

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
Yes, you can reconfigure the outside plug to match the internal harness. HOWEVER...we need to know if you have factory-installed traction control before you do this. Even if you do, there is still hope, just one extra wiring step you would have to take.
Sinister Performance used to have all the schematics online...looks like they took out a lot of the docs though. I will look at the 93 book I have to get the pinouts for the trans harness. If someone can do the same for a 94/95 that would complete everything.

yes the bonne came with traction control but it dont work.<---never did
IDK if the 95 buick lesaber had traction control or not.

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
Well, if it didn't work....there won't be much issue.
The reason I asked is because the 1993 transmission used a temp switch, and only for the traction control. 1994 and up models used a temp sender, and is used with the PCM to monitor trans temps....this is the biggest reason for the pinout change.

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
Do you know what wires need to be swaped?
Or do you have the scimatics for both?
TY very much for the help so far

I've got schematics for the 1993 for sure. I think I might have the 94/95 laying around somewhere. Gonna have to check the garage later tonight.

I have the 93 schematics on my website. Click my sig pic and then click on PICS 1 on the left title bar.
Lemme know if you guys need the 95 pinouts. I have FSM's for both 93 and 95.
FYI, you should never swap a used trans without dropping the pan FIRST for an inspection and filter change.

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
That schematic is for a 94/95...temp sensor wiring gives it away. If it were a 93, there would only be one lead for the temp switch.
We need the 1993 schematic now. I'm at work, and I no longer bring my manuals with me...

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
The colors that are in common locations between the two models you do not have to modify. The wire for the temp switch (1993...your car) will have to be grounded to keep that part of the traction control system in check (though you said it doesn't work, it should still be grounded). The two cavities for the temp sensor wiring (new transmission side) should be left vacant.
The 1993 schematic IIRC has two 12v pos lines. Your new transmission only requires one, as all the solenoid positive connections are ganged to it (BTW, solenoid actuation is handled by switching grounds on and off, not positives), so keep that in mind as well. So by the time you finish your splicing, you should have a total of 3 vacant slots going into the transmission. B&D positions should NOT change IIRC (wait until the 1993 schematic shows up), so effectively this leaves only 2 wires to relocate on the harnes itself an one wire...I believe it is the yellow one...should be pinned to ground.

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
Ok we tryed some spliceing with no luck, Im just going to wait for the 1993 schematic.
Also im going to try to post up a video of the car trying to move, its feels like there is not enough hydrulic prassure, the car moves but the plates slip,
I just want to make sure we are on the same page, What we are trying to fix [pinout] is not for the traction control system Right? It will fix the low hydrulic prassure?
With out the solenoids kicking in will cause low prassure?

Re: Trany swap went wrong, HELP!!
Right now you don't have the solenoids fully connected, so the fluid is not being correctly routed to the appropriate apply fluid circuits.
I'm home now...let me try to get the schematic.
