You would probably have to tap into the contacts in the key cylinder for the start portion of it.
Doesn't make much sense to have to put the key in, turn it to on, and then press a button to start it. Maybe if you found a way to add the proximity sensor from another car so you could leave the keys in your pocket.
I really don't think its possible, or that the end justifies the means or cost though.

The first time he used the TC button, but it couldn't handle the load so he put in a bigger switch I think.

The only way I could see it being cool is if you add the proximity stuff so the key stays in your pocket.
Otherwise, I agree with Ed, that its very rice if you put in the key, turn it to on, and then reach for a separate button to start it.

you can do this with a old style horn button ,or doorbell button modifed . have done this on regal when ign was bad, and i was poor. drop starter and run hot wire from starter to switch and ground from starter. just bascially crossing starter . work,s

Even with the gen II M62 the car scoots along quite nicely.
And lays rubber well...
I'm sure we can almost all relate to that.
Lots of performance oriented plans.
But the start button is just what seems like a cool easy mod.

I think it has the potential to be cool, but only if you remove the necessity to insert the key.
If you have to insert the key, turn it to on, then reach to a different button to start the car, it seems counterproductive, and IMO VERY rice.
Now, if you can figure out a key proximity set up where you can leave the key in your pocket and start the car, that would be cool.

Go for it, your bonneville will be unique. As far as being useless I dont think so, i have a kill switch and have to do the same thing to start my car

If you have lots of loooooong lights in your area, I could totally see doing this to save a few bucks at the pump.
Now a start/stop switch is something to consider. Then you keep the ignition key glued into the igntion, and have to merely press a button.
