HELP! ASAP!

i'm attempting to replace my drivers side axle for the second time in a year. i tried to pop the axle out of the transmission and the whole shaft slid out of the trans...

carefully slide it back in? Mine started to come out when I did my axle, but it pushed back into place.

How far did it come out? Travis (sonoma_zr2) was saying that there's a little plastic piece in there that splashes oil onto the gears inside there, and if you pull the axle out, it breaks that piece. If it only came out a few inches, you're ok. If it came almost the way out, you're in trouble.

yeah it came out almost all the way. i talked to a local guy and he said you might as well start pulling the tranny.... i'm calling northland transmission tomorrow just for another opinion, if i hear the same thing from him i'll be pulling the trans soon.... FML

well it turns out the output shaft on the trans was broken inside of the axle. i got a new shaft from local trans shop for twenty bucks :banana: and a new axle under warranty.

Wait. So you pulled the old axle out of the inside of the transmission and put a new one in??? You had to have broken that plastic splasher in there. It works, but don't be surprised if the trans locks up on you....

i called northland transmission nearby (the have a great reputation and have been around forever) and they said that i would have no problems pulling the shaft out and putting it back in. so thats what i did. i also drove about 100 miles last night just to make sure everything worked as it should and it did.

just because one person says something doesn't mean thats the way it is... always get multiple opinions

however i found a used tranny with lower miles for $288.00 that i'm planning on picking up in a week or so, but am probably gonna wait a while to put in.

2000 SSEi trans with low miles for $288? Something doesnt sound right about that.

Are you sures its from an 00 SSEi, and that the trans tag code matches yours? It won't be plug and play if its not.

well 100,000 miles (50,000 less than mine) but it does have matching trans tag and everything. yeah it's a really low price. thats why i'm willing to go 300 miles to pick it up. the local junkyard wanted $900 for a trans with 140,000 on it.... good luck selling that

If you are very careful you can do this without breaking the oil dam...

The shaft should have never come out tho as there is a C clip on the diff end of the shaft... The passenger shaft is attached to the Diff, the drivers side CV is attached to the output shaft.. If the C clip is there on the diff end like it should be, the shaft should have never come out like that..

i do not have pictures of the shaft at the moment. the shaft was broken off inside the axle and the clip was jammed in the axle. thats why the axle wouldn't detach from the shaft. the shaft broke right where the clip is located.
