No illumination

I wanted to change from stock stereo to a after market deck. Kenwood mdc-mp2035. I am getting no illumination to my deck, getting all power and deck lights up but nothing on the screen. I do know that the old stock stereo had the same problem, the display worked for split seconds at different random times. Please let me know ASAP. Thanks

I don't think your problems are related. The random working of the display in the stock radio is a known problem with the bulb, nothing to do with the wiring or unit itself.

If you are getting power to your HU, and some of the lights are working, I'd say there is a problem with the screen. Is it new?

well the deck is not brand new but it does have a new fuse in it and i have another deck also doing the same problem. Getting power but no illumination beside the deck lighting up itself.

Do you know how to bench test a HU? Try hooking it up outside the car, only the red (+ battery), the yellow (+ acc) and the black (- ground) and see what it does.

We tried on both decks, red+yellow to positive and black to negative. The deck turns on but the display screens wont work... Doesnt make sense to me.

Sometimes there is an orange illumination wire, but that only controls the brightness. Its worth a shot... otherwise it sounds like they are junk.

Probably got a really good deal on them, huh?

Thats about what I figured. Is the other deck a Kenwood too?
