Factory CD players
Are all factory CD players flakey when it comes to temperature change and humidity?
I have a 97 CD player with the aux mod for my ipod. If it rains or there's a large temperature difference from when I last was in the car, the CD play will spit the CD out upon start up. I'm pretty sure it's related to the dew point.. It happens more during the change of seasons.
I've tried different CDs and it doesn't matter. When it gives me trouble it will Eventually read a CD but it could take up to 20 mins. It drives me insane..
So are they all this bad?
What other options do I have? I want a stock looking CD player that matches my interior. And a car-pc isn't a good idea for me in the city..

Try blowing a can of air into it.

I have an 00+ Monsoon from a Trans-AM, EXACTLY the same but with a Monsoon symbol on it, it has a single cd and also can control a cd changer...it's your best bet. Join a Firebird/Trans Am forum and post in wanted/look through for-sale.

So you have zero issues with it?ChilinMichael wrote:I have an 00+ Monsoon from a Trans-AM, EXACTLY the same but with a Monsoon symbol on it, it has a single cd and also can control a cd changer...it's your best bet. Join a Firebird/Trans Am forum and post in wanted/look through for-sale.

Re: Factory CD players
The only thing I never hooked up cause it was broken to begin with was the steering wheel controls....I've done some research and I think switching one wire to another pin SHOULD fix it, but never cared. Otherwise, no issues at ALL, sounds and works beautifully all the time, I even put the 12-disc in the trunk and use that, so now I have a total of 13 cd's at one time.

Re: Factory CD players
I tried the compressed air in a can and it didn't help.
Looking into the Monsoon CD players it seems they are a 98-02 option? Not just 00+?

Re: Factory CD players
Yes, but 00+ have cd changer controls whereas before does not. If you ever even may consider a changer in the future, get 00+
BTW if you want a pic of it installed in action I took one of mine, PM me your e-mail.

Here, transferred from phone to computer today, figured I'd let you and whoever else would ever be interested see it...

I gotta tell you though...adding in the changer made life so much easier...

Re: Factory CD players
i believe the 96+ bonnies had the changer option too. as i know that my 96 has the changer port on the back and the same button layout on the front.
IIRC when you plug a changer in the port in back the 1,2 buttons dont work for track changing but instead become CD advancement (from cd1 to cd2 etc.) and the track button remains controlled through the seek button

Re: Factory CD players
i'm jumpin kinda late here but... my CD player kept getting worse about the temperature thing, until it spit them out even at 60F. At that point, i took the radio apart and wiped the laser lens with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol and viola! It's good down to 20*F now, and plays ALL my CD's again. I wish i had done that 10 years ago.
