Transmission problems.

Transmission problems.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
To make long story short, transmission is dead. It cracked pretty bad and all fluid is out in two miles drive.
I used five bottles to get me home from work being gently on the gas pedal,otherwise it could fell apart.
My question is what's the reasonable price for replacement from a junk yard and what's the reasonable price to pay for swapping it.

$600? $300 for used trany, $300 labor to install?

Yeah $600 would be a great deal for me around here. Because if you can even find a series 1 L67 tranny with less than 150k its gonna be at least $350-$1000
Then about another $500 or so to have it put in
But thats around here.
Anything with a series 1 L67 is somewhat rare and when you do find then they have HIGH miles but thats just around here
I think on a general basis if you could find one and have it put in all for under $750 that'd be reasonable

I just went through service manual and it seems that I have that transmission case extension cracked.That's where right axle going into transmission and a speed sensor is located and this part cost $109 from OE Parts HQ (found online ).I have to recheck tomorrow the extend of crack ,because initially I didn't inspect it good enough on the lift,just saw a big crack. If this is what I think then things looks much better than I thought.

Yeah but depending how far and long you drove it low or with no fluid your tranny might be ready to take a crap anyways

4T60 experts - is that the diff cover? When my trans was on its way out, the differential pin was already working its way out and rubbing up against the cover. It would've only been a matter of time before I experienced a failure as you did. Even so, a complete teardown was called for and that portion of the case was replaced.
Something had to have failed internally for a crack like that to happen. You are likely still looking at a replacement / rebuild.

I've spotted it very fast. I was in a city traffic and it just started slipping after turn or stop so I just jumped out of the car ,got five bottles of fluid and kept adding it every few miles. Yes, what repin said. Sounds like the diff cover. The biggest issue here is that while the pin breaks allowing the main pin to slide out, it throws all sorts of metal junk into the fluid which gets pumped around and eats the rest of the tranny.
If Mr. Wren was on here lately, he could explain and show you the aftermath.

Called few places today. One junk yard wanted $450 for tranny, the other $350.
I will have to lift it up again to be sure and talk to guy about swapping cost.
If it more than $650 together I will part out with this car so keep in mind folks who may want to fix it or have parts.
I also have spare supercharger with it and another spare nosedrive , but both nosedrives has to be rebuilt, alternator, EGR valve,few fuel injectors, ignition control module, radiator is 4 months old and some other stuff to go with it. (don't remember everything). The price will be low,so don't worry

Too bad you are so far away....
The Diff Pin has either snapped and started to walk out, chewing up the Diff cover causing it to break or the Retained pin has broken( rare ) allowing the diff pin to walk out and chew the Diff cover... Either way this is a Diff related issue..
