It's running very rich if the cat is getting that hot, meaning it's not firing correctly. How does it run? How long has it been sitting without running?

Also, to make it easier for us to help you, try using punctuation and complete sentences. It just helps make it a little easier to understand in type.

Thanks and welcome!

Could be a bad O2 sensor, or a bad cat. Or both.

Give the stuff on this list a good look over. Could be part of your issue, especially plugs and wires. Then we can go from there.

Brand Suggestions are in the parentheses.

If your car was sitting for a long time, the fuel could have gotten nasty - possibly causing an injector to stick.

Otherwise, I once had a similar problem when one of my ignition coils was going bad and giving weak spark. Was scratching my head for a while until the coil got bad enough to positively confirm that it was the problem.

Does the car have any power and does it shift properly? If not, the catalytic converter may be restricted. If it is, you would have to replace it.

The cat's job is to get hot, very hot. The honeycomb material inside is supposed to store heat from the exhaust. Once the cat is fully warmed up, it will be hot enough to burn any unburned fuel that may have left the engine. This is done for emission reasons, because unburned fuel is harmful to the envuironment. If the cat has to burn too much unburned fuel from the engine, it can get red hot. If your gas is old it may not be burning completely, leaving a lot for the converter to take care of. So, some fresh fuel may be all you need? There are lost of reasons an engine can run too rich, but you should start with fresh fuel so the engine CAN burn it better, then go from there if it is still getting too hot.

If the spark plug wire is cut, it could not be giving that cylinder any spark. That could be causing it, either way I would replace all the plug and wires if there is a cut in one of the wires.
