Engine codes

Post by ColdScrip »

I have been having intermittent engine codes:
13 - Oxygen Sensor Circuit ( Open Circuit )
55 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Fault ( EGR Solenoid # 3 )

First #13 and I left it alone. I decided to check it again and now got a new code #55 along with #13. The SES light will come on and go off. I figured it was the O2 sensor electrical line giving the issue but now I have a #55. What exactly is #55 telling me?

Wow, looks like the club dropped the ball on this one. Sorry about that.

The initial problem might be just the O2 sensor. It is easy to replace, install a new one and see if that takes care of the problem. Sometimes when an O2 sensor is giving faulty data to the computer, it goes off on strange tangents.

If the O2 sensor doesn't fix it, get back to me.

The SES light coming and going and a code 55 point towards an EGR pintle sticking. Take it off, and give the shafts a good shot of carb cleaner inside/out. You'll likely need a new EGR gasket.

Unhook the battery to clear the codes and then see if the code 13 comes back. If it does, you've got a bad O2 sensor or a break in the wiring. Before you buy a new sensor, you can splice a new wire into the wire coming from the O2 sensor. If your code 13 goes away or changes to something else, it's the sensor.
