Question on bent rims (Another ?)
Okay, I popped the stockers on my Saab. When I was putting them on the car, I noticed one of the rims was bent on the inside at the lip. It seemed big but I never took the rims off before I got my new rims so I figured it must have been there since I got the car and I never had any vibration issues.
The bent rim was on the back which is now on the front (tire rotation, fellas) and I noticed vibration at freeway speeds which indicates tire balancing issues so I swapped the left side front to back and the vibration went away thus indicating the bent rim.
My question is: How do I determine if it's too bent to be repaired or re-balanced? A replacement rim on ebay is shockingly expensive.

Re: Question on bent rims
I didn't notice a specific price quote on the site But I bet it will be about 100 bucks a rim,

Re: Question on bent rims
Thank you for the link and suggestions, fellas.
I decided to check Tirerack...they sell 16'' steelies and I like steelies...
I'm going to have the rim checked out probably tomorrow and go from there.

Re: Question on bent rims
You gotta remember, Cody has a SAAB, and they are weird. 5x110mm bolt pattern (I thought they were 5x100 like most small GM cars), and they seem to be about the only company that uses that pattern. Plus, they use bolts to mount the wheel instead of studs and lugnuts.zuper8 wrote:steelies???? man, you and mark.... lol

Re: Question on bent rims
I was actually thinking steelies with either poverty caps or moon discs.
Yes, I will go there.

Re: Question on bent rims (Another ?)
Does anyone know if poverty caps are bolt pattern specific or just covers the hub/bolts completely?
I can't seem to find any (I tried googling and I keep gettting results relating to actual poverty)
EDIT: seems like they're also called dog dish caps.

You're usually a good guy to refer to when it comes to pick out wheel/rim packages.

Keep in mind this is winter rims and the steelies are the cheapest.

Cheap alloys aren't much more expensive than new steelies. You'll have a better riding and handling/accelerating car too.

Re: Question on bent rims (Another ?)
I'm a poor college student. The steelies are 55 bucks, the cheapest alloy from a reputable place (Tirerack or Discount Tire) starts at 80 to 95 bucks.
A replacement rim of the same style, even used, starts at 150 bucks. Forget that, I never even liked the rims that much anyway.
