future upgrades

Talk about modifications, or anything else associated with performance enhancements. Have a new idea for performance/reliability? Post it here. No idea is stupid! (please use Detailing and Appearance for cosmetic ideas)

future upgrades

Post by JordanT »

My car needs some repairs as outlined in this thread
viewforum.php?f=18

If I end up needing to replace my rocker arms I was considering getting the intense level 2 L36 performance package http://intense-racing.com/Merchant2/mer ... de=3800_PP Since I've wanted the intake and pcm tune for awile and I figured why not upgrade my rocker arms if im replacing them anyway. My question is if I did end up doing this and then later on down the road I wanted to supercharge the car (I plan to keep this specific car and upgrade it over a long period off time rather then wait and trade it in for an ssei) Would I have to go back to the stock rocker arms in order to put something like this http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/3800-Sup ... ccessories on the car or would they work togethor and just require a new tune.
Also does anyone know of a shop in the western washington area that will tune our cars.

edit: Can I buy a pcm out of a wrecked se to run my car off of while i send my pcm to intense.

On the PCM, send in the PCM out of the wrecked SE, not the other way around. Then they can program it for your VIN, etc.

On the rockers, you shouldn't need to replace them, but you do need to remove them if you need to get to the lifters. In your other post, I posted the maintenance list, and you should make sure your maintenance is up to date before modding. The rockers should work with a top-swap kit, but I'm not 100% on that.

Turn around on a pcm is not too bad, you will only be without your car for a few days and will save a few bucks.

The level 2 kit will improve the pep in your L36 for sure.
Not sure about super charging in the future as this is more than a pcm tune and a new intake bolt on, but thats another subject.

thanks

if I need to remove the rockers to replace the lifters do I need to buy new rocker bolts? I thought I read somewhere the bolts were not reusable.

Yes, you do. The stock bolts are Torque-To-Yield, and are not re-usable. You can either get new TTY bolts or re-usable bolts from Intense or ZZP.

If you do plan on supercharging down the road 1.9 rockers are a good idea. If not, ZZP's ER ratio rockers are the best n/a ratio.
