FWI install for 2000+

1 .Remove the stock air box and bellow -3 screws
remove PCM from air box - just slips out-sorry no pic

2 .remove IAT sensor from bellow
3 .jack up car and remove LF tire

4 .remove about 7 push tabs from inner fender well liner- carefully

5 . bend up out of way the fender liner.... hey look theres the horns.

6 .after cleaning area where air box was
Install PCM tray from Intense with 3 screws provided (i only used 2)

7 .snap PCM into tray

.Now on to the filter
8 . connect K&N filter to fender well hose


by the way the hose looks ruff/bumpy on the outside but is smooth on the inside.

9 .slide hose up the inside fender well and out through the hole


10. connect rubber coupler to the throttle body and connect IAT sensor the the coupling

11. connect hose to the coupling

connect IAT wire
I may cut it down as i think its a tad to long. but we'll see

replace inner fender well lining
replace tire
start car and you can hear the air going through the tubing.
Take for a test drive

Ahh... so the filter does just sit in the well. I've been wondering about this for a long time as to whether this is feasable on an 87-91 car. Looks like I'd have to stuff the filter in the EVAP canister hole or something.

Know of anyone who has tried this on an 87-91 for sure though?

The set up would be the same as my 95, but I think the LN3 throttle body is a bit smaller..

But I will still say I love my intense Intake

How many feet of tubing from intense did you need

Do you really have to remove the tire to do this? I thought you could just remove the headlight to get at all the necessary areas...?

I think the only way to get the filter down in the fender is through the wheel well. I dont think it will fit down behind the headlight. My guess is that taking the wheel off is the only and/or easiest way, if there were a better way, Intense would probably use that in their directions.

You can get it in behind the headlight with a lot of squishing/bending of the filter, not recommended

I would soo love to do this, but I like to give my engine bay a wash every now and then, and I have a feeling that would have to stop with the PCM out in the open like that.

The PCM connections are completely waterproof. No worries.

Just got through with my FWI install and this was exactly what I needed to make it a breeze. I will be posting pics in a little while showing the horizontal install just behind the headlight assembly as aposed to the vertical install down into the fenderwell. All I had to do was take the headlight out and I didn't even have to disconnect the headlight either. Pretty easy and thanks Gonzo for the assembly!!

Ok, sorry for the long delay but here are a couple of pics with it installed...

...as you can see I didn't even have to completely remove the headlight and I have the PCM zipped tied for now until I can get it screwed in somewhere that looks appropriate.

Cose up of filter tucked in behind the headlight. It fit very easily and did not have to be bent at all! It looks like it was because I didn't use my brain before I used my brawn!


Over all it was a very simple process...I hope you like it...I call it my "Gonzo"!! And yes, I know I need to clear my headlights!! Had them cleared before the accident but haven't gotten to the new ones yet!!

i just did this on mine as well during the blower install. i ordered 3 ft but used about 2.5. and i didn't pull the wheel/wheel well i pulled the lower air dam off as i wanted my filter as close to the bumper opening as possible.

i was looking for a write up on the FWI for my 2004 se . this is perfect thanks. how is it replacing the filter tho, and how do i remove the pressure pins that hold in the fender lining.

I don think this is in TechInfo. Should be, or atleast a sticky for 00+ or in Performance and Brainstorming. Would stop a lot of people asking the same questions, especially recently.
