Need tip on removing bolt?

Post by pontiac6269 »

My 98 Olds 88 has the shuddering when you take of from a stop. I did a search on the forum and found that it is the rear passenger transmission dogbone. How did you remove the bolt that hits the engine cradle? I have the new part to replace.

Thanks,
Eric

I found this out when I had to rebuild my motor.

I needed a new dogbone (rubber was squishing out) and ran into the same problem as you. You will need to remove the entire bracket from the rear of the differential cover, then you can remove the bolt. Remember to put the dogbone back onto the bracket before putting the bracket back on the diff. cover. Then you can tighten the thru bolt back up.

Hope this helps!

Is that shuddering more pronounced when you give it a lot of throttle from a standing start? I think my car has the same issue, but I'm not sure.

I don't believe so -there is a bulletin out for this issue, which is a shift solenoid not down-shifting from 3rd until you pull away from the stop -what you are feelin is the transmission stumbling (or slamming) down into 2nd gear, then 1st.

Yes, can feel it at half throttle and gets worse from there.

Thanks,
