Pioneer headunit issue

Post by EWC88 »

I have a pioneer DEH-P6800mp headunit. Always had this issue with it but I just figured it was just this headunit but I am now asking you guys to wonder what it could be. Most of my friends have head units were if you crank it over like 10-15 its loud, with my headunit I have to have it up around 20 something just to hear it, and its not like I have bad hearing, everyone who enters my car thinks its weird how I have to crank it up just to hear the thing. Literally lastnight I had it at 54 and that mad it be loud but not like ahh my ears are hurting loud, made it noticeable to people but I mean you would think it be ears hurting loud at the number. Could this be the headunit or some wiring?

Well, it depends on the headunit. Some have a max volume of, say, 30 so having it up to 20 would be 2/3 max and be pretty loud. I have a Pioneer DEH-6000UB and the max volume is 50. So, I need to turn it up to 35-40 before it's truly loud (but I have external amps and have my gains set to 40 as my max) but you get the picture.

What is the max volume on the HU? Check it with something paused. And, remember, most headunits only put out like 15-20 watts per channel, so it's not going to get that loud anyway. And once you turn it past 75% or so of max volume, it's going to clip and get distorted anyway. If you want loud, you need a seperate amp.

It;s just the way your head unit measures volume. You have much smaller increments of adjustment. as long as it gets loud enough (regardless of the number) don't worry about it.

20 something out of 62 is only 1/3 the volume... sounds normal to me.

Yea, why do you care that is doesn't go so loud that it hurts?? you shouldn't ever turn it up that high anyway.

Not that I am trying to get it that loud to hurt my ears, I was just saying that you would expect it to be at that type of volume with how high I have to put it, but I wasn't doing that math like andrew did.

It's normal, I had the same head unit, it's just the way Pioneer is.

rmac694203 explained it very well. It's normal for your head unit. If you want it to be louder than it is with just the head unit, you need to add one or more amplifiers. Your head unit should have plenty of line outputs to drive amplifiers if you decide to go that route.

put your loudness on low, I've found that gets what I want out of the sound and it doesn't distort the sound
