What do you do...?

Post by spidey3479 »

When you don't have the cash to buy parts for your car because your son's SUV, that used to be the family car, and that you gave him as a graduation present and told him,"... all you have to do is take care of it. Its paid for.", needs everything under the sun done to it before he goes back to school. And you rear window regulator goes out. :angry4: :angry4:

:idea1: Grab the next best thing to duct tape, zip ties.

Now I have a matched set in the rear! #-o #-o

Don't have all the tools and not near enough patience. Thanks for the info though. My wife and I are the only ones that use the car and we never sit in back so their staying up is not a problem until I can afford the replacement parts.

Pull the door panel, disconnect the electrical harness going to the window motor, push the window up and wedge a wooden dowel or small piece of pvc pipe underneath it to hold it up until you can fix it. Put the door panel back on and drive it. Don't feel bad. I've had to do it twice myself until I could get around to fixing it.

Ummm...Tell the kid to walk. Yes I have 20 year old, and guess what....she walks. I offered her a car at 16 and she turned it down, said she didn't want to work for it IE: didn't want to pay for the ins. I offered again at 18 and she said the car was ugly and still couldn't come up with the money for ins. I won't offer again.
I've been to jail in 12 different states ! ;)

I'm going through the exact same thing now. Used a wooden dowel to keep the window up. I'm not putting the door panel back on though. I have a knack for breaking those dang plastic clips, so I'll avoid having to mess with the door panel when I can.

I'm debating on repairing mine or buying another. I could do it myself, I'm just iffy on the cable condition. It's kinked in a couple places and frayed. Might try to stop by a bicycle shop tomorrow and see if they can cut a length of cable for me. Since the cable seems to be the same thing they would use for the brakes on a bike.

I've repaired several with kinked and frayed cables, without problems. If you do opt for the bike shop, they should also have the proper anchors.

It's tied to the bracket on the inside @ the top so its practically all the way up and isn't moving. I only had about 15 minutes to do something before having to get back to the store. I've been pretty lucky with those plastic thingies, haven't broken one yet!
