coolant coming out of throttle body
Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
i will call them first thing on monday morning. i guess i should have researched a little better before placing the order. i used gmpd about 7 years ago and didn't have any issues, but i guess times have changed?
agrazela,
i purchased a new FPR from the parts store but have yet to install. i am going to call monday to the dealership to see about a recall on the part. as of right now, with the coolant leak issue, i don't want to start the car and run to diagnose any more fuel issues. at least not until the UIM/LIM gaskets are replaced.
there is a rubber boot thing cracked as well that connects the FPR tube and another tube to a location near the throttle body. this was causing the engine to stall and surge after replacing the fuel pump. hoping to use electrical tape and heat shrink tubing to repair.

Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
have everything removed and ready to begin reassembly. HOWEVER, when removing the IAC from the throttle body, a bolt snapped. i used PB blaster and went little by little. i even screwed it back in some, added more pb and then slowly started to remove again. the head of the bolt snapped off leaving a few mm of exposed threads. possibly able to grab hold of with vice grips, but considering going to a machine shop and having them pull it out to be safe.
i need to swap out the valve cover gaskets while i have everything apart. noticing some seepage from both. should i replace the grommets that are associated with each valve cover or would these be fine to leave?
still trying to figure out what to do with the throttle body bolt.....

Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
I replaced the grommets on my car, as they came with the new gaskets. Since they're already paid for, might as well put them on, IMO.

at my local parts store they are separate, thats why i asked. they sell the gaskets and grommets apart. i will just purchase them and replace them. better safe than sorry.
Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
on an 01 non-s c with the apn kit, do we use the sleeves provided? and if so where?
Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
nevermind, i just replaced the lower o-rings of the injectors and left them as is.
picking up a used throttle body tomorrow from the yard.
what i could use help with is what bolts go where on the UIM. forgot to mark where the double ended bolts go.
almost to the finish line...

Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
The APN "sleeves" (actually EGR stovepipes) are meant to replace the EGR stovepipe in your LIM with one of reduced diameter where it goes through the UIM, so as to not make contact with the plastic.
The EGR stovepipe in your LIM now is either 3/4" OD (pre-1999/2000 or so) or 5/8" (post-1999/2000). Tap it out by tapping it lightly, repeatedly, back and forth on the side (or just put a big lockjaw on it and twist it out. Then choose the right APN stovepipe, put it big-end first into the hole, and tap it straight in with a hammer and woodblock (soft wood, like a chunk of framing 2x4) until the "shoulder" of the big end is flush with the LIM surface.
As for the UIM bolts; IIRC, there is only one that is double-ended, and that one goes near the TB opening, right next to the EGR--in fact the EGR heatshield will get attached to the top stud with an M6 nut. Then there is another semi-long bolt that goes on the other side of the TB opening. All the rest (8 more?) are the same short bolts.
P.S., sounds like you got it already, but do the VC grommets; they wear out / soften up and will not allow proper VC bolt torque if not replaced. Also, did you get that IAC sheared bolt taken care of?

Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
i was referring to the sleeves that were inside with the fuel injector o-rings. i got the stove pipe installed, no problems.
as far as the throttle body, the machine shop charges $60 an hour for labor. i can get the throttle body for $25 from the yard, but i have to drive 40 miles to get it. still cheaper than the machine shop. i attempted to use vice-grips, but just broke the remaining part of the exposed bolt off so i am not going to mess with it anymore. it also had oil build-up in it from something leaking before the teardown of the engine.
i changed the valve covers already along with the grommets with zero issues.

Ah, misunderstood the sleeves thing.
Put a "wanted" ad on the Bonneville forums and the Grand Prix forums (like clubgp.com or grandprixforums.net), and I'll bet you could get a TB delivered to your door (maybe minus MAF sensor) for well less than $40.

Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
You have an L36.
*Gone, but not forgotten* - Black 2000 SSEi, HIR Headlights, Angel Eyes fogs, 3rd brake light overlay, hi-flo cat, 180 degree thermostat, HS 1.9 rockers, LSx yellow springs, Intense FWI, PCM, shift kit, push rods, and 3.4 Pulley. ZZP Power Log.
Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
thanks archon. needed to order a new fuel rail and saw a few that simply listed the L number.
using the APN kit and the supplied o-rings is a big no-no!! (at least on an 01). i used them and attempted to put the fuel rail back. was very hard to get in and assumed it was because of the new o-rings. i used a "little" force and bent the backside of the fuel rail. doesn't look like it would hurt anything, but was worried with the main line being bent that the alignment of the injectors may be ruined.
i ordered new o-rings and when i tried to remove the back rail, i forgot the front nuts were on and bent the tabs holding the front of the rail down. to me, the rail seems to sit a little funny now. prolly no issues, but better safe than sorry.
i also got a new throttle body with all sensors attached for $30. should i use the sensors on there already and just clean the TB up? can the sensors get a decent cleaning while still mounted? i would hate to snap another bolt off in the TB and be back at square one.
now if this *dang* rain would quit, i could get back to reassembly!!

Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
TB is up to you, use tb cleaner to clean the TB, maf sensor safe is a plus so you can leave the sensor in, if not, remove the maf and use a q-tip and rubbing alcohol to clean the filaments, you can also clean the IAC with tb cleaner too!
good luck
good luck

Re: coolant coming out of throttle body
finished!!! took a few days with the rain and what not but the car is done.
i forgot to install the pcv valve and started it. nasty hiss-leak around and inside the intake and squealing noise with it. otherwise no issues other than the rest of the car that needs fixed....hvac no blower at all and both tie-rod ends.
i would like to thank those that helped me with this issue! i couldn't have done it without you or this forum...
