Grand Am Question (Ignition)

Post by 93 SSE 4 ME »

My cousin's Grand Am is giving him a problem. He went to start it this morning after sitting over the weekend, and the ignition wouldn't turn at all. The battery was dead, but even after charging, the ignition switch won't physically turn. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Mark

Do you mean that the key itself won't even turn?

Could be something with the steering wheel lock, correct me if I'm wrong (2000 bonnes don't have steering locks) but sometimes you have to turn the wheel a little to get the key to turn, maybe something inside isn't disengaging the lock on the ignition.

Tried snapping the wheel lock to lock, that's not working.

Yea i figured you would have tried that, what I meant was maybe something is broken inside of there?? I'm just suggesting ideas, i don't really know exactly where to look, but that might be a start.

Agree with viper. Something is probably broke inside. Thats one thing if the car wont start, but the key not physically turning, thats different. Something is broke I'd say.

yeah I have that same problem with my TGP sometimes. Shift interlock is busted. If I mess with the *shoot* while trying to turn the key that normally works.
