It's been a while since I last look at this cool forum. You guys describe many of the quirks in my '05 GXP as well as many of the solutions... thanks.
My driver side fog lamp went out so I bought a bulb from the dealer ($31) and paid a mechanic $24 to install it. He went in through the splash guard. I'll tell him to go through the headlight next time which will be soon as now my passenger side went out almost as soon as I put the new one in the driver's side.

$31 for a bulb!!!

You can buy them at an auto parts store for less than $10. It's an H3 55W bulb standard. An H3 100w is also an option. But with 100watts, expect more heat.

thanks, I'll go to Pep Boys and pick one up. I might even try to install it myself. I'm no mechanic but how hard can replacing a bulb be?

It is actually somewhat a PITA. But once you learn the tricks to doing it, you can have it swapped in less than 5 minutes.

The driver side fog light went out in my GXP yesterday... Well I had already ordered a set of silverstars from fleabay $8 shipped brand new still in the pack of 2 and so i wanted to get some different type of fogs that will be the same color as the silverstars without playing the parts store prices. But anyway, I never looked at changing the fogs since i had the car the whole going on 3 weeks now so when i did!!! Man, i got a shock!!! but thanks to this site and you guys, i'm pulling the headlights and changing them when i get the silverstars in the mail...

I just did my passenger side again tonight. I have done it so many times now I am a pro at it. Under 5 minutes now. It almost takes longer to get the socket out to remove the headlight then it does to change the bulb.

i saw that 55w is the standard bulb, has anyone seen a H3 that is less that 55w to keep the heat to a minimum? i really only use my foglights for the look, less for the actual light output at night

Re: Fog Lights?

No. Problem is, these are projector style fog lights, so for any usage for actual performance needs, you need the higher wattage to get anything out of them. Running a lower wattage bulb will only make them as bright as say, your parking lights. As I've mentioned previously in this thread, to help combat the heat issue, leave the back moisture caps off.

Unless you live in a tropical rain forest and drive through monsoon's, or live in antarctica where the car is subject to mass levels of snow, you shouldn't have any issues with water. I've been running mine with the caps off for over a year without a problem. Well, other than my bulbs lasting 3x what they did before.

Wow the GXP still goes thru foglight bulbs like water huh? I thought there was a TSB that replaced the harness and made bulbs last longer? If I had kept mine longer I was going to go HID.

I ended up making my own "harness" and it still went through bulbs like water. Heat is heat.

Re: Fog Lights?

OK, i now am starting to dislike these fog lights!!!! Also i think the fogs are talking to each other too!! Today marks almost 2 months and im on the 5th blown fog light blub...... OE right side blow out so i bought 2 new blubs that matches the Silverstars low beams ($13 for both) Those blow out with in 3 days of each other, so i replaced both again and within 2 weeks they both blow out again and today the driver side which is about 2 weeks since the last fog change has blown again.... What gives.. I'm to the point to just dropping the car off at the dealer and say fix this crap now!!! It's under warranty so i just may do that next week..........

FYI, our fog lights do not like Silverstar H3's. Seriously! I went through them on a weekly basis. Went back to a regular Sylvania, Wagner, or whatever bulb, in 100W rating, and they last a couple months (with the moisture caps off). Put a Silverstar back in (just to see), and they last a week. I don't get it.

I found some bulbs at auto zone that has a blue tint on them and they are 55watts. they put out a bright white (not blue) light that is just as bright as a Silverstar fog blub... I would hate to go back to the OEM blub, the white light looks much better than the oe yellow looking output..... but guess i'll try that next!!! And i also have the caps off the fogs too!!!
