How to Mod a 3800 series 2 N/A?

I was told that with the right mods I could make my series 2 in the SE equal or just a bit better then a stock supercharged series 2.

Can someone give me a list of what has to be done to do this. I would like to get prices ran here to see what it would cost for me to do this. Thanks

most would say that, with a Down Pipe/headers/Power LOG exhaust manifold set up and a hi flow cat for starters..... with more exhaust flow

you can add a cam? or rockers? for more flow both intake and exhaust

It's going to be rather spendy to achieve the performance of an L67. Clearly state your goals, as a swap might get you there cheaper and easier.

Hitting the same ET on a 1/4 mile track is one thing. But that's still not the same, as the L67 will almost always produce more torque in the low rpm's, and that torque curve remains very flat across the band. This is the major difference between them (due to the blower).

It'd be easier to buy an SSEi. Honestly, I think the SSEi's look better than the SE's, but that's a personal opinion. The bumpers do interchange, however.

keep in mind if you put an SE rear bumper won't have cut-outs for the dual tips that an SSEi has. They might be low enough that the bumper fits above, but that could be an issue.

i'd be doing a flowmaster exhaust. And the Se bumper bevels up so the exhaust would fit fine. But i wouldn't be doing the cow bells. Just a dual with dual pipes

Whatever you do, make sure you get tuned to make use of the new parts. Even if it's a canned tune, it's likely going to benefit you, and give you a jumping-off point for further tuning.

If you decide to keep the L36, the folks with ported LIM's are singing their praises.

home ported heads, a stock cam reground, dyno tune, and a few other oddities put a 97 SE down to 15.3

As for an L36, I was running 14.7's with a GT1 cam, 105 springs, PLOG, GMPP exhaust (magnaflow), catless DP, and HV3 insert. Didn't even have a ported LIM. On a warmer day it would run 14.9's. This was all with a ZZP tune. It probably could have improved a little from a custom tune.

That's a good idea of where to go! Kudos for making a speedy N/A 3800!

I've heard good things from the PLIM alone. I'll find out soon enough. If nothing else it's another baseline to start from.

I ran 14.9 with a FWI, 180tstat, and solid mount with an L67. I say get and L67 and keep your body panels if you want. It will be much less work/moeny than camming, PLIM, and all the other stuff youd have to do to make it a little bit faster than a stock SSEi. Why go N/A when you can S/C?
