Guess who needs injectors!

Post by Allmachtige »

Red line is RPM, green is MPH, yellow is Voltage, and white is Injector Duty %:

Take a guess what my injector duty peaks at.

I'm defiantly getting 60lb injectors when extra cash presents itself.

What size are the stock injectors.

You do not want to go too large or you may have low speed tuning issues.

Size your injectors for ~80 to 85% DC.

Stock is 36 lb.

I'm going with 60 lb when I start to bring in more money, but I'll need a wideband first.

60s are over kill unless you are going to build a turbo setup. 42.5s are sufficiet for what you have set up.

At 85% duty cycle and a 0.60BSFC (Brake specific fuel consumption)

36# injectors are good for 305Hp at the crank.
42.5#=359
60#=507

0.6 BSFC is on the rich side so let's go down to 0.55:

36#=333
42.5#=392
60#=553

The M90 is good for ~460Hp with a good intercooler and very good tune.

How much power do you plan on? Size injectors based on your power goals.

:bhuh: Where do I sign up for that. I don't see any M-90 cars doing that, even Gen V. Am I missing something? Because if that is the case I am going in the wrong direction with my tuning. http://www.clubgp.com/newforum/tm.asp?m ... 1013318297

But back on topic, why spend the extra money on the 60s when you aren't ever going to need them most likely. Like Greyhare says, they are good for a long time.

Purely theoretical based on the amount of air it can move.

Due to less than 100% volumetric and thermal efficiency you will never see it.

I was more trying to show that 60# ijectors are just not needed and will only cause tuning issues.

Ahhh, that makes a lot more sense. 60# are hard to get tuned in and they will decrease your street reliablility significantly, not to mention your fuel economy can be kissed goodbye as well.

In the case of E85 then yes you need bigger injectors like the 60-65#s. 42.5s aren't enough due to the lower specific gravity and required increased Duty cycle to keep up. That information changes everything. For normal high octane fuel though that isn't the case. I've toyed with the idea of E85. Tuning is just a nightmare and E85 doesn't exsist around my house. :sad5:
