Should I buy a 2000 SSEi w/ 36k miles

Post by 99SilverSE »

The dealer is wanting pretty much $11k for it. :laughing3:

I checked with NADA.Com and in good cond. it was like $8600
and Kbb.com in Exc. cond was $8650

If I check it out what price should I put out there?

From a quick look today it has some light scratches on the sides but other than that I just took a 2 sec look cause I was needing to get home.

Not worth it, even with only 36k. My 03 SSEi wouldn't be worth that if it had 36k.

I'm thinking if I do check it out I'll tell them $8000 or nothing.

I don't need it and I'm not getting sucked into it again with them. I bought my 99 SE from them for $5900 - $2000 for a trade so about $4000. It had about 75K when I bought it. And about 115k now (two years later)

Very low miles for a 2000, which is why it is priced so high. Even $8000 seems like a lot for it. And an SSEi with 36k miles on it is not necessarily going to more reliable then one with 80k miles on it.

From what I remeber reading here, 2000 wasn't the best Bonneville year.

If you treat them right, they are just fine. It's not like the engine is any different, its still just as reliable.

???

Except for 4th clutch hub improvement in 03+ and the switch to Series 3 in 04/05+, was there any major difference in any model year from 2000 up?

My guess would be that with the redesigned body style in 2000, the "earliest adopters" were simply the ones who first learned of the 2000+ model's specific quirks and irritations (window regulators, A/C airmix issues, etc.), without a knowledgebase or history built up on how to fix those issues. Maybe that led to a lingering perception of 2000 model year being particularly bad?

Went and test drove it today. Drove nice and all but it seemed to be about as fast as my 99 SE w/PCM tune.

They said they would give me $2600 for the 99 (which is cool cause I owe a little less then $3000)
The reason they are asking 11K is because they are trying to get some money back out if what they put into it.

They put all new gaskets on the motor/charger flushed/refilled the trans and a bunch of little things

He said that since it sat more than it was driven they changed all the fluids and gaskets as preventive maint.

But I'm going back tomarrow or wendnesday to talk about the price of the Ei. I told him that $11k was too much and I thought it should be more about $7-8K. He said I'd have to talk to the owner and he wasn't there today.

IMO I would never say 7-8k have 1 number to play with not 2.

Well he said he'd sell it outright $8550+ TTL with no trade
But since I have a trade and it needs paid off too it's gonna be really hard to get my payments around $150 month

He said that if I had some $$$ to put down that would help. (of course it would)

They are gonna check around with differant banks and get back to me tomarrow.

I'm a little argrivated with him though cause all he kept saying was how the car was soo nice and how it will be worth more in a couple years if the miles are still low. (huh??)

He even said it was so fast it could beat a Corvette. He also said the KBB and NADA are stupid places to look for prices cause they only go be the year and make and that they don't look at how the car has been kept and how nice it is.

:stupid:

Don't believe a word he says. He's just trying to make up BS to get you to pay the higher price. Tell him you're not an idiot, the car won't beat any vette except maybe a C4, and that it's worth what it's worth, no matter the miles or condition.

Here is the deal so far...

He is giving me $3000 for my 99SE ( I owe $2894) So he is paying it off for me, but
he is selling the 00 to me for $9500 to cover what he needs to fix on my 99. (headlight, grill, carpet, bunch of little stuff)

So after taxes and title, all paperwork the total I need to loan is $10,000

I've been declined by two banks already but there are still a couple me that haven't replied yet.

Yeah I'm thinking that the banks won't do it anyways.

Like I told my wife, If they can't get my payments to $150 or less I'm not getting it. I don't "need " it but it would be nice to have a car with low miles for once.

I don't think so.

But he called me back today and said "I got some good news"

He said that a bank would approve me under 1 condition, I have a $1500 down payment cause they will only give a loan for $8500

So I told him Sorry can't do it. I don't have $1500 just laying around.

He said thats fine he is still waiting on a couple more banks to reply.

I'm with Haro, I wouldn't buy it for that much money. I sold my 02 SSEi last February (I think) it only had 40K original miles for 8K. There was a 2000Ei with similar miles going for around the same at the time when I sold it, also a private seller. My 02, aside from it having problems after problems was almost in mint condition, just a few minor scuffs on bottom of the rear bumper. At the time when I sold it everything had been fixed... it was just when and what was gonna be next... the first guy the looked at it and test drove it bought it. Mine also came with a balance of 2years/26K left of the GM Major Guard warranty, that would be something hard to find in a used SSEi today. I say hold out and look for a better deal because there out there if your looking.
