The Great Bonneville Transmission Debacle
I started this story in another thread....but I was steering it off base so I started my own...I own a 2000 Bonneville SSEi...it is still a pretty little ride with 212K on the odometer...at about 85K the overdrive went out of the 4T65E-HD...of course it was out of warranty so I kept driving it until around 175K when the trans finally gave up completely...I had it rebuilt by a local shop who does some stuff for my work also...I did the R&R and they did the rebuild for 1000.00...all was well until it got the 212K on the clock...then one day with no warning it quit pulling in any direction...no sound...no indication it was even coming out of park other then the fact it would roll in nuetral...so I pull it back out and take it to the guys who rebuilt it before...it was out of warranty as I knew and once they got it apart they told me it had broken the planetarys and the drive chain...they charged me 800.00 and went threw it completely...I reinstalled it and everything was great for about 10 days...then I came home from work and saw a trail of fluid leading to its parking spot...I pulled it in the garage and the fluid was leaking pretty severely from the left axle area...I initially thought I hadn't seated the axle and it had popped out...so I jacked it up and removed all the stuff required to remove the left CV...when I gave the CV a pull the shaft inside the transmission came out with the axle firmly attached...I was inititally very upset and asked some questions on here which indicated the clip that retains that shaft was not holding...or the final drive they installed might have been the wrong one from an older one...it was the second with the final drive from a older model installed...they came and picked the car up from my house...repaired it and test drove it...all at no charge with a big ole "I'm sorry" from the owner...I feel better about them taking care of it quickly

Re: The Great Bonneville Transmission Debacle
Good to hear...not that it broke, but the shop was pretty "stand-up" folks about fixing it. The prices they charged are not unreasonable for an overhaul (actually, probably on the low end of normal.)

The shop that did the rebuild is ETE Wholesale Transmissions and their number is 317-635-0111...they are in downtown Indy...this is about the 15th or 16th trans they have done for me or my job and the first time their was ever an issue...I think they are fair on the pricing but they are carry in only so you have to do the R&R...and very very fast...the first rebuild they did on the Bonnie I dropped it off at 8AM and had it back at 2PM the same day
