These really hurt the funding for all my hobbies. First one was stationary, I know it is there, and I have driven throgh it a thousand times in my life, but I ALWAYS had thought the speed limit on that paticular street was 60 km/h, not 50. I don't know how it took so long. Second one was a mobile unit. He was camping out in an old Ford Taurus. Never saw him.

I explained to the Judge that when I loan my car to someone, I take every step to ensure they are:
A. The age of majority.
B. They have, at least to my knowledge, a safe driving record.
C. A valid Operator's Permit.
I said my issue with the process is that I have absolutely no say in who does or doesn't receive a license. I have no choice but to accept the fact that the Province felt the driver was mature enough, responsible and had sound knowledge and skill required to safely and within the law, operate a motor vehicle. I said that perhaps if I had some input about who received a license that I should be at least partly responsible if someone elects to drive outside the limits of the law. Otherwise, if I take reasonable steps, I need to trust the Government will show due diligence in punishing those who actually violate the law. I felt that the offending party should have been stopped and THEIR actions dealt with.
Well, I wasn't overly surprised, but nope it didn't work. He explained that in Alberta it's the registered owner who is ultimately responsible for everything. He suggested I shouldn't loan my car to anybody because I will be responsible.
In all the cases he heard, he only let one lady off the hook. She explained that her teen son was driving and she was in the passenger seat beside him. She saw that he was speeding and constantly told him to slow down, kicked him (much to my surprise) and made every effort she could to make him slow down. He accepted this and dropped the charge. I don't recall if the teenager ended up with a ticket in his name or not.

Oh they aren't real Police officers...they are "peace" officers. I don't think they have much more authority then to take a picture. They don't have to do anything when they are in the car either. Half the time I see them sleeping, reading a newspaper, or talking on thier cell phones. Hell of a job, eh?

I dont know about canada but here in the states it doesnt go against your driving record. Something in the constitution about being able to question your accusor. And you cant question a camera in court. they still issue the ticket though through loop holes by making it a local ordnance and some other BS. Its just the citys cashcow
This is why when i get my bike my rear plate is going to be on a hinge so I can tuck it up and not pay through IPASS or get caught by cameras
