engine diagnostics, repair advice (codes listed)

Post by woody_02silverse »

Our '02 Bonne check engine light went into a blinking mode last night and the engine threw a fit of knocking and seems to have derated. The dealership has it and said the following codes showed up, which they said were Misfires and Knock sensors.

PO300,327,332,336.

They are 100% sure there are 2 bad fuel injectors. I looked up these codes and 336 is a Crank position sensor.

What is the best advice, I would be very unhappy obviously if they later told me the CPS was bad and I'm on the hook for the injectors too. It seems unlikely 2 injectors would go bad at the same time. Would those codes be consistent with injector problems?

Thanks much!

There are a couple of tests that they can do with a Tech II that tests the injectors. If they performed those tests, and the injectors failed, then they quite probably are bad.

Thanks Archon, the diagnostic test they should have wasn't explained to me. But they went ahead with the replacement injectors (#1 & #4) and it seems to be running well. I detect just a slight roughness in the idle that isn't normal. I put in fuel injector cleaner and topped the tank off with 92 octane on the way home, just incase some other injectors are getting clogged up. I wasn't able to find out if the old ones were clogged or mechanically failed.

If they were that certain that they were bad, then my guess is that they went bad electrically.

That's why I was concerned that the fuel injectors were a misdiagnose (PO336, Crank position sensor). I trust they did the proper tests and attributed all these codes to fuel injector failures. I am left wondering if a reset of the codes and/or limp-home mode temporarily resolved an intermittent CPS problem. Time will tell. Of course there is the possibility at this mileage there were interacting problems with both injectors and CPS.
