climate control display question
I think I read on here at one time (may have been on the old site), that someone had swapped the green screen on the climate control with one from an oldsmobile that is blue. Is this hard to do, if even possible?

Re: climate control display question
I changed mine from green to blue, but I didn't swap it out. I simply took it apart and applied 2-3 layers of a blue film over the display. Turned it blue.

Re: climate control display question
Hmm.... Does the film effect the brightness? Or better yet does it come in red?
I think red would look more uniform with everything else, but the blue would match the radio display. But my scan gauge can change color.
This is what I have now (scan gauge looks orange in the pic for some reason)

Here's with the scan gauge set to blue

I'm not sure which would look better, but I think the green display looks out of place.
Where would I find some of that film?

The film did affet the brightness, but minimal.
You can't change it to red, it turns brown.

Its been many years since I did this, and I couldn't tell you where I got the film from anymore. All I did was a Google search for transparent blue film. I found a company that would send me some 8.5x11 samples, and thats what I used.

Re: climate control display question
That looks awesome like that, I searched some for the film but no luck. I am gonna keep looking though. I never thought to change the DIC or the compass, but once I get some film I'm definitely changing those too. (if only my compass worked).

Re: climate control display question
I have the one that was swapped out with the olds in the Zilla. It is a bit more blue which ties in very well with the blue trim ring around my JVC DVD deck.
The buttons aren't the same either. Different icons/colors.
Sandrock did it, then sent it to me. I'll send him a page............

Re: climate control display question
That was one helluva page
I gotta look through my photobucket....ah!

IIRC, I used the faceplate from an Olds Cutlass Cruiser (the Caprice-based car), tore the plastic film off, cut it to fit the Bonneville, and stole the buttons. The ECC electronics are Bonneville.

I can post a day and night pic of Brad's handywork later if you like to show how it looks in a Bonneville with the non-wood-grain trim.

That would be cool. I actually grabbed a display out of an oldsmobile at the junkyard last time I went.

Will do. I'll have a few beers while I wait for the giant warm orb in the sky to disappear.

Re: climate control display question
Forgive the pics, not the ideal conditions, but I think you'll see the difference. This is both cars compared. The Zilla has the 'Brad Hybrid' ECC, the SLEeper has a stocker.
SLEeper's stocker with a flash:

Re: climate control display question
I really like how that blue looks on there. I made an attempt at changing mine and I took the one from my car apart first. The green lens was actually different than the blue one from the other one. It was part of the skin of the ECC face. I cut out the lens but I had messed up and kinda butchered it, no biggie tho. I switched them and I was taking out the blue lens and for some reason it had been glued on the thing. I was trying carefully to pop it out and the blue lens cracked in half. So now I'm gonna have to leave it like this till I can find another.

Re: climate control display question
I went junkyarding yesterday, and I happened to find another ECC out of a '93 Caddy Fleetwood that looked like it could work in a Bonne. Black face, chrome-trimmed buttons...though I am not sure what the display color would be.

Ah. That does help though, there are a lot of caddys at the junkyards near me, I just never thought to look in any of them.
