New LeSabre owner

Post by klindstedt »

Greetings!
I've been lurking here for several months after I purchased my 1993 Lesabre and then started looking for repair/upkeep information about it. You have a bunch of very knowledgable people here. I know enough to do most minor repairs - I'm not afraid of brake work, shocks, struts, alternator, that sort of thing. I do get a little timid around the internals of the engine. I bought my LeSabre last fall with 83,000 original miles on it and a folder full of service receipts. The car is in great shape except for a few issues with the paint and some rust issues. I've been an import owner for years, but when looking for a work car I stumbled upon information that suggested the engines in these cars were all but bullet-proof and they got surprisingly good gas mileage on the highway. I've got to admit that for a 15 year-old car this thing drives nice and has good power. My youngest daughter likes to ride in it - she calls it "the big comfy couch"! It does have just the Dynaride suspension, so yeah, it is like riding on a cloud. Here's a few pictures of her-

Wow, that is an incredible color! Almost as good as the Medium Garnet Red Metallic.
<shameless plug :) >

Welcome to the site. Do you have the full instrument cluster with Tach, Oil pressure, temp, etc or just the speedo?

Full cluster. :)

If I'm not mistaken, that color is called Dark Cherry Metallic. Is your interior red as well? I didn't care for the red interior at first, but it is growing on me.

Yes the interior is red, but a darker red. Can be seen here:

I have been curious. With the full cluster, are the warning lights in the cluster, or in the translucent strip on the dash?

A little of both actually. Right above each gauge there is a single red led that lights up if you are above (or below) "normal". However, I also have the full compliment of idiot lights in that strip on the dash. Once I clean up the interior a little, I'll shoot some pictures for you.

I looked at your interior shots - mine is the same color as yours. Is it an optical illusion, or is your dash pad tan instead of red?

Dash pad is the same red as the rest of the interior, and above the strip is black. It was likely reflecting the color of the building. You can catch a glimpse of it in the stereo shot.

Edit: Actually, it was the cluster shot.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. Trust me, the car looks better in pictures than in person, but I'll be working on that as time and money permits. Yeah, I probably will turn the whitewalls in. It's hard to keep the front ones clean for any length of time. Not sure what kind of pads are on there, but I've never seen so much brake dust.
