Jeezus. You got taken for sure. I don't understand how they can change the price that much. Next time you need exhaust work check out Fair Muffler, They are familiar with the 3800 and do good work.

Dang man, that sucks! I would have given him the origional amount and called the police if he didn't release the car. I had to do that at pep boys once. Once I threatened calling the police, they caved real quick! If you paid by check or credit card I would cancel payment on it. It usually costs about $25 to cancel a check at your bank. If you paid cash then you really cant do much.

heres the thing
i did call the police
they couldnt do jack *shoot*
they said it was a civil matter not criminal
so i had to pay the full amount or i couldnt get my car
and take him to court for the difference
which isnt worth spending like 500 on a lawyer..

so basicly he got away with it..
BUT im spreding word fast to everyone i know
to tell everyone they know, that his shop is just a big scam

They can do jack *shoot*. It is a criminal matter because the are holding your property hostage. It is the same as stealing. Either way it works to get a statement filed with the police that can be referenced in court.

Also, just because you can't afford the lawyer, doesn't mean you can't take them to court. Any court with decent evidence provided will find in your favor. The question is do you have evidence and time to spend in court. Small claims cases, are hardly ever worh the money to hire a lawyer. If you get estimates from other shops on how much the job would have cost/time taken, and show how they took far to long to do the job. You should have a decent case. Even better if you have an estimate from the beginning. You see cases like this all the time on courtTV.

to be honest mike i am 70% sure they would pay you off anyways as long as they are a larger company. all those cases you hear that we all laugh at like the lady spilling coffee at mcdonalds. common we all know coffee is hot but she sued and mcdonalds paid her off before the court date to keep mcdonald's name off the records.

i would threaten them with the original quote of theirs the finished quote and get quotes from some other places. including mom + pop shops and some of the bigger guys like midas and merlin and pep boys. get all that quotes in their face and say i will take you to court if you fail to pay back the difference of your original and ending quotes.

Wait... Did this include them installing your headers? FWIW The Header install by itself can be around 300.

From the sounds of it they installed the headers too. Header installs really really suck. But I did it in the driveway with jackstands and one helper in about 8 hours or so. But the point is that they should have upheld the original estimate or been within $100 or so. Or at least called to say hey it is going to be a bunch more so what do you want to do. You can't just charge whatever you want and then hold the car hostage until it is paid for. That is rediculous.

I kind of have a thing for header Installs on Bonne's. I've went from stock manifolds to Pem's, to Pacesetters to SLP's. Getting the Pacesetters off and SLP's in took about 2 to 3 hours.

well the guy said that it would only take 4-6 hours for the whole job,
that he works on pontiacs all the time,
that its nothin big,
he also failed to mention that hes never worked on a bonneville before..
AND didnt know until he popped the hood that it was FWD..

all in all, its all done, i have my car back, and im out 300 extra dollars
on the upside, its a bad@$$ system, that sounds amazing.
