Re: just hit the big 200

my 92 has 250K...when i mention this to people, i get two responses...i get the so-called experts telling me it is way over-due to die on me....possibly at any moment, or i get how 3.8s are indestructible and will run forever. the truth is obviously somewhere in between, and really depends on the ...

Re: December COTM :: rtabish

thanks for the support! for all the problems i have had with it, i like the car for what i know it is supposed to be. the grand prix wheels were a good addition, and the fact that the body and paint were in pretty good shape when i bought it really helps. i would like to get around to installing the ...

Re: Winter Wonderland.....

we get our -40 degree stretches here in western Montana, but normally the weather is comparatively mild. this winter is predicted to be another La Nina winter with more record snow fall, when cold air from Alberta and Saskatchewan comes down and hits the moisture laden jet stream the amount of snow ...

Re: PVD: bright chrome or black chrome?

if i had the choice, i would go with simple gloss black, not bright chrome or black chrome. since you limit our choices, i would say bright chrome...black chrome looks great on primary color cars [blue or red], but white doesn't work as well with it.

Re: no brakes!

haven't been back under the back end of the car since last week, so i haven't looked at the drums. since i get to do any automotive work i have to do outside on the street in front of my house, getting a window of opportunity [when both weather and other obligations allow me to] to get into even ...

Re: no brakes!

i think the idea is to get the engine vacuum up. with my engine idling and the car sitting still at the curb, i can get brake pressure, but as soon as i put it in gear and start rolling [raising the engine vacuum] the brake pressure seems to drop off a lot.

if it weren't for the ABS...the only ...

Re: no brakes!

the booster isn't too tough to replace. the toughest part is getting up under the dash behind the brake peddle to undo the 4 mounting bolts and brake peddle linkage, and taking the master cylinder off in the engine bay. probably have to take off the strut tower brace as well. i don't like doing it ...

Re: no brakes!

00Beast said the same thing...no, i haven't tried that yet. interesting that this might be the issue, though. i would think that the brake booster would either work or not work, but not have that big an effect on the actual stopping pressure the brakes make. i would think it would just be harder to ...

Re: sunset on my bonnie

has this site ever considered a project picture page specifically for glamorized shots or modified pictures?...not just cropping or sizing, and not just "photoshopping" stuff into the picture. well done photos would make a good calender or something. car magazines do it all the time.

Re: sunset on my bonnie

you don't have mountains in Illinois? haha....we lived in Moline for a few years when i was a kid. lots of greenery, and lots of water everywhere...but a few bluffs were about as high in altitude as you could get. i like having something in the background to look at. :)

Re: sunset on my bonnie

huh, i was kinda partial to the head-on shot, but sure. the back-end picture..the way the green of the car goes to the green of the tree in the middle ground to the green of the pines in the background....the curve in the road seeming to disappear, the angles, all draw the picture to the center ...

Re: no brakes!

got to re-bleed the brakes again. did get a bit better pressure, but not much. was talking to the counter guy at the local parts store earlier today, and he said that when he did his grand prix master cylinder he had to bleed out the system 3 time before he finally started getting decent feedback ...

Re: no brakes!

if the brake cylinders were leaking, i would think this would be apparent. the housings are dry and there is no fluid loss that i have noticed. if the brake cylinders were just plain bad, it would explain some of the mushiness but not the complete failure of the system to stop the car while in ...

Re: no brakes!

i did bench bleed the master cylinder in the car with the supplied plastic fittings and tubes before hooking it up to the system. i thought i had bled the system sufficiently...at both the front calipers and the rear drums, but could give it another shot.

i followed the same procedure i use every ...

no brakes!

the braking in my car has been very soft...even mushy to almost nonexistent, since i bought it. it did, however, stop when i managed to have time to pump the brakes a bit, so i figured it was the master cylinder.

today was a pretty nice day, so i decided to replace the MC. it turned out to be a ...

Re: 15 Beater Cars that Won't Disappoint

Any car can be maintained if you throw the necessary parts at it...

its all $$$...the price of replacement parts, availability, and ease of replacement...either by the owner or whom-ever is recruited to do the work. some stuff is pretty universal. plugs, wires, filters, etc. it is the stuff that ...

Re: 15 Beater Cars that Won't Disappoint

well, and they kind of "went for the duck" with a few of the cars...sure, everyone knows about the general dependability of a lot of Japanese cars....we keep getting reminded about THAT when ever talk about what ever happened to the American Car Manufacturing industry comes up. :banghead:

Re: 92 SE with 96 GP wheels

the 5 spoke design is fairly common, with both stock wheels and aftermarket styles. these just seem "smoother" than most of the ones i have looked at. together with the more concave shape and slightly wider rim lip, they give the car a wider looking stance. since they are 7" wheels, i can put on ...
