Re: GEN V or ported GEN III w/SSIC?

Just to chime in and back up what Bill's been saying...heat soak isn't really an issue for a W2A intercooler setup when a proper sized heat exchanger and pump are used.

As a test (not very scientific mind you), I drove to my favorite deserted highway and did several extended WOT runs (back to back ...

x2 on the HPS pads. Not exactly low dust like they claim, but they'll reliably stop you from ANY speed and are long lasting too. Only downside is that they don't bite hard when cold.

Re: cam and/or rockers

The 96 cars still use the 4T60 so a 97 pcm would have to be customized to use the -60 trans tables. Just stick to GMTuners for simplicity...the pcm doesn't need much done to support a cam anyways.

Yes the cam can be installed with the engine still in the car. You will have to drop the passenger ...

Re: Project Cam: Lets make a buying list

If I can remind myself to do it, I'll document the cam install when I swap everything from my old motor to the new longblock in the next week or so. It might convince you that you have the skill to do your own. It really isn't too hard...just time consuming.

Re: Project Cam: Lets make a buying list

x2 on the lower stall converter recommendation. I haven't had any TCC issues with a 3k stall and 3.69s. However, the car does feel sluggish at low revs, and when you do give it gas the motor will instantly shoot up to 3k rpm (no boost but it still scoots) which gives the car sort of bipolar nature ...

Re: Post your "WTF was I thinking?" mods...

Attempting to turn my daily driver into a 12sec car. #-o

When everything works, there's an unhealthy correlation between the smile on my face and the position of the boost gauge. This is the third time this car has been down for more than a week though. First was for the initial build and trans ...

*dang*, another busted up L67. I feel your pain. :angry7:

Hope things work out in your favor and you can get the car back on the road soon.

Re: A sad day indeed (now with pics)

The motor is pulled but that's about all the visible progress I've gotten done. Most of my spare time has been spent porting crap..~30hrs so far when you include cleaning and disassembly, and I still have one cylinder head to do (I spent 15+ hrs on the first one). School's caught up with me though ...

Re: upcoming toys! (updated on 3rd page)

Overlooked it the first time around...you'll need to add a camshaft bolt and harmonic balancer bolt to your parts list (Intense carries both). Both bolts are torque to yield and shouldn't be reused.

Re: upcoming toys! (updated on 3rd page)

Toss in a tweaked pcm to run that cam and you're good to go for a basic cam build. I would strongly consider making the trans your next priority as far as mods go though.

Re: A sad day indeed (now with pics)

Believe me, a good engine bay cleaning is in order. The line for my mechanical oil pressure gauge cracked right at the block a while back...it's not a pretty sight down there.

The oil pressure kit was one of the first things I did after the cam. One of the best mods you can do for these motors imo ...

Re: Urethane torque axis mount

I've had a half done poly TA mount sitting around for several months now. By half done, I mean the rubber is cleaned out of the TA mount and I have a container of urethane sitting next to it...got sidetracked and never finished it.

My planned mount is identical to yours...full poly mount ...

Re: HS rocker issues...

Thanks for the link. I planned on contacting HS with my problem as soon as I got the engine pulled so I could get some pics of the rockers still fully installed on the rear head. I will be bagging each rocker with its pedestal for evaluation purposes.

As I mentioned before, these rockers were ...

Re: HS rocker issues...

The roller tips are fine, normal wear since the tip is wider than the valve. What I'm talking about is where the roller tip is obviously digging into the rocker body. I did expect to see a little bit of wear on the rocker body since the tip is free to move around. What concerns me though, is that ...

Porting is my weekend project...LIM, mild head work, and knocking out that 'wall' on the blower outlet so I can make full use of the intercooler.

Re: A sad day indeed (now with pics)

I have the whole engine stripped down and ready to pull already...the only thing holding me up is the lack of an engine hoist. Gaskets and hardware needed to swap all my stuff over to the new engine are en route to my doorstep too. :)

Brad...you wouldn't happen to have an engine hoist I could ...
