I'm sure a 58 Service Manual would help break it down. I know I have one somewhere but I hav'nt seen it in years. Are you a member of P.O.C.I. (Pontiac Oakland Club International)? They have several group experts for each model that can tell you more than you will ever want to know.

My 00's original battery (size 79) finally died last April. So, two months shy of 8 years. Partly my fault for letting it sit for 4 months. I started it in March but only let it run for a minute to "check the battery". Now I have a Duralast Gold.

They do make a kit for the Cad STS from 98-?. Wouldn't that be similar to the 00-05 SSEi. Granted, Northstar vs 3800 6.

What was the diameter of the stock FE2 rear springs. I have a set of FE3 rears from an 02 Aurora that I was going to swap out. They are 14mm. If the FE2 is also 14mm, I won't bother.

I would buy some "TERRO" ant killer. and pour a little on a couple of pieces of thick paper. Place them in different spots in the car and let it sit overnight.
