A stretched 1968 Pontiac Bonneville?

My spouse's cousin took this photo in Texas recently. My thought was that it looked like a stretched 1968 Pontiac Bonneville. Stretched by whom is an interesting question. Did some guy just weld a couple bodies together? As if the regular version isn't long enough at almost 19 feet. This thing has ...

Re: Very high mileage 92 Bonneville

I was looking through some 92-99 Bonnevilles in a junkyard in Rockford, IL and noticed most had 250k+ miles on them. At least 3 had 300k or more and 1 had 520k. Needless to say, I left feeling a lot better about my 150k mile 99. If I ever go back there, I'm bringing my camera to take pictures.

Scan tool recommendations

I have a copy of AutoEnginuity with Enhanced GM support that I bought in 2004. I'm finding it won't connect to my new 2008 Grand Prix. I'm guessing I need an upgrade that supports CAN. I'll probably have to give them $150 for new hardware and $50 for the latest software. Before I fork over any more ...

Re: New (to me) 2008 Grand Prix

I don't know about the engine per se, but the Bonneville and the Grand Prix feel totally different. The GP has a more firm ride, tighter steering, and a more aggressive sounding exhaust note. Of course my Bonneville is a 99, so perhaps wear has taken its toll on the ride. I did briefly drive a 2005 ...

Re: 99 has a cracked lower intake manifold

I got the new MAP sensor in this evening. Thanks to olblueeyesbonne for the sensor. Since the old one came out in two pieces, I think I can rather definitively say that I found the problem. :) The scan tool is getting good readings off the new sensor, so its all good now.

With the Bonneville all ...

New (to me) 2008 Grand Prix

Some of you may have seen my other posts about being in the market for another car. Today I bought a 2008 Pontiac Grand Prix. 43k miles, leather, sunroof, dual exhaust, etc. I traded in the Rendezvous that was giving us so many problems.

It was really cold outside today, so I didn't spend a lot of ...

Re: how did you get your beloved Bonneville

My first Bonneville was a 1991 LE that my father bought in 1993 with 30k miles on it. I remember thinking it was a really cool looking car when I was a teenager. I started driving it in 1997 (at 106k miles) while I was in college. In 2003, it started developing a transmission problem. Since it had ...

Re: 99 has a cracked lower intake manifold

The only "parts" I didn't supply were oil, coolant, and an oil filter. They basically did 2 oil changes after the job to flush things out. So the labor was $425 and the parts (that I didn't supply) were $58.

Re: 99 has a cracked lower intake manifold

It was, in fact, a GM UIM with date code 1/28/2003. I poked at the plastic around the EGR hole a bit with a drywall screw and it didn't seem brittle. But I do now see that one of the holes near the EGR hole is not perfectly round. All in all, it seems like it was in good shape for the age and ...

Re: Roof top or trailer hitch cargo carrier on the Bonnevill

Well this is all part of my grand strategy to replace both of our cars over the next several years. The Rendezvous needs $2000 in work that I know about. I have no confidence that will be the end of it based on its history. I also have to be concerned about replacing both of our cars too close ...

Roof top or trailer hitch cargo carrier on the Bonneville?

As I mentioned in another section, we're car shopping at the moment. I'm getting rid of a 2002 Buick Rendezvous that's been giving us a lot of trouble and I'll probably be replacing it with an 07-08 Grand Prix. Twice per year or so, the whole family piles in to the car to visit family in the Detroit ...

Re: 99 has a cracked lower intake manifold

I had the work done by a local shop today and got my car back this evening. I didn't get a mile before the Check Engine light came on. I was picking up the car after hours, so I drove it home and pulled the codes. P0108 and P1106, both related to the MAP sensor. The sensor appears to be firmly ...

Re: 99 has a cracked lower intake manifold

Yep. I've got the aluminum LIM gaskets, the APN UIM, and a new coolant bypass elbow sitting in my basement ready to go. Tuesday is the day.

Re: 99 has a cracked lower intake manifold

:banghead: I think I was the victim of an elaborate optical illusion. I got another LIM from olblueeyesbonne today. To my surprise, the location of my "crack" is indeed a casting line on the other LIM. The casting line was much more pronounced than I expected. By that I mean it sticks out a lot ...

Re: 07-08 Grand Prix with dual exhaust?

@sandrock: Did you buy it new? If so, did the dealer change out the exhaust like that text I posted seemed to indicate?

They seem to exist, but they're not very common. I found a number of them around the Detroit area. Maybe I'll have to take a drive out there.

07-08 Grand Prix with dual exhaust?

I'm shopping for an 07-08 Grand Prix with V6, leather, and dual-exhaust, preferably in black and non-supercharged with less than 40k miles. I'm having a hard time finding this combination, though. I'm seeing a lot that are close, but lack the dual exhaust. When I look at the "research" area on Cars ...

Getting rid of the other car...

We're really getting sick of all the problems we're having with our 2002 Buick Rendezvous. Its not an easy vehicle to work on myself, so its costing me. Not to mention, we're not SUV fans in the first place. But somehow it gives me pause when I'm getting rid of the 9 year old car with 83k miles and ...

Re: 94 SLE Sudden Gas Mileage Drop

That may be worth a try. I had an issue on our 02 Rendezvous (3400) where the Coolant Temperature Sensor was flakey. When it heated up after the car had been running for a while, it stopped reading accurately. I couldn't tell from the temp gauge on the dashboard. I finally figured it out when ...
